Book Description

As a child, Asha was bitten by a dragon and gained the ability to hear the souls of living things. Years later, she uses her strange gift to heal people possessed by angry ghosts, poisoned by legendary beasts, and tortured by the cruel doctors from the east.

With the help of a blind nun and a sleepy mongoose, Asha confronts both victims and predators, including the man who stole her childhood and killed her lover. She travels through strange forests, misty mountains, tiny villages, and imperial cities. Everywhere she goes, she finds people suffering from their encounters with bizarre animals, plants, and spirits.

But in the far west, Asha discovers that there are fates worse than death and there are evils that can only be defeated by a woman with the strength of a dragon.

The Chimera series of mythic fantasy adventures:

Book 1: The Dragon and the Lotus
Book 2: The City of the Gods

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my favorites! December 13, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
I do love this book. It's different from the other books I've read by this author. The pacing is a bit slower, but I really enjoy that. If gives the reader time in this exotic world that is brought to life through wonderful descriptions and interesting characters.

The world presented is one that feels familiar and yet at the same time not. It's more than just being set on the other side of the Earth. Smoothly planted details emerge that tie it into the author's Other Earth Series.

Honestly a very interesting story. It's easy to read it too quickly, but it's also easy to read again.

5.0 out of 5 stars An immersive read in a fascinating world October 22, 2011
By Aubra
Format:Kindle Edition
The Dragon and the Lotus is a tasty mix of historical fiction and fantasy, with just a touch of steampunk for flavor. I started reading it sort of idly on my lunch break, thinking it would be a pleasant way to pass the time. In reality, I spent the rest of the afternoon counting the minutes until I could go home and finish it. Each adventure the main characters get tangled up in is unexpected and well-balanced, set in a world so rich that I was continuously and pleasantly surprised by each new turn of events.

A fast, entrancing read that definitely left me hoping for more.
