About the Author

Betty, who left us in 2002, was a renowned mystic who not only shared her gifts, but lived by them. She was an author, lecturer, teacher, and someone known as the "Common Sense Guru." Her teachings came with one proviso; That people would regard her merely as a teacher and not a crutch, and that they would take her teachings and run with them. Her mission was that everyone be their own guru.

We all know when we read a truth or a non- truth, it just feels different, and I know Betty wrote an accurate and so helpful book.

I myself am a dream interpreter with my own dream interpreting site in which I encourage people to learn how to interpret their own dreams. This book is my #1 preference for people to consider first, because it is logical as well as spiritual. So many dream symbol books are hokey and just plain ridiculous, but this one simply makes sense and helps the dreamer better evaluate their dreams.
This book can help you gain better understanding of your subconscious mind's inner workings via dream interpretation so you can better follow your intuition to clear the cobwebs of confusion & uncertainty out of your life. I highly recommend this book and commend the author, Betty Bethards.

The Dream Book by Betty Bethards was the first book that was suggested to me for learning more of my future. It was ironic that I kept forgetting the name. Now, I rate it as the top book to get curious people to start their own adventure. I am now ordering my second copy as my first is in many pieces, worn so from much use. I prefer this Dream Book to all others that I have ever seen. It is simple and to the point. It is my opinion that Spirit will communicate to you with symbols. If you stick to one simple book of definitions, Spirit will be able to give a clearer message.
Thank You Ms Betty Bethards for being my first Guru.
Peace Gene Shafer

This is a wonderful book which has helped me interpret my dreams. I particularly like Bethards emphasis on the spiritual--developing your higher consciousness. Using principles of eastern religion/philosophy, such as karma and reincarnation, she sees dreams, along with prayer and meditation, as a tool to help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself.
Emphasizing the need to work to achieve your goals, to focus and direct your energy towards them, to take responsibility for your own actions, she believes you can create your own destiny.
Her dream interpretations are always guiding, teaching, gentle and caring, never threatening or frightening.
I find this book an insightful, uplifting, spiritual guide, which also helps you in a practical way, as you work to attain your ambitions here on earth.

For the most part, this is a good book but it does have a few faults. One that I find a bit off putting is the "God" language. I'm glad that it looked at dreams from a spiritual aspect but I would have felt more comfortable with a more generic term for the Divine. It also got a bit preachy at times. I did like that she included the chakra system and the importance of including those ideas in your interpretation repertoire.

The second thing that made me hesitate was that, although she has a whole paragraph saying that "you are the final word" on the meaning of a dream symbol, she immediately follows that with several pages containing some pretty concrete interpretations. For instance, she claims that if you are traveling in a downward direction in a dream, it means you are going the wrong way. It possibly could, but it may instead indicate that you are "going deeper", so a blanket interpretation like that could be misleading. I would have been happier if she had used a lot more terms like "may mean", "could possibly indicate", "sometimes shows", etc.

One statement that the author made that I do agree with is that the feelings that the dream leaves you with are very important when determining it's meaning. If a dream had disturbing images but ultimately you awoke feeling powerful and liberated then those "positive" emotions give you a real direction for interpreting the dream.

Overall, I think I prefer the book from Kelly Sullivan Walden called "I Had the Strangest Dream...". She outlines a great method in which you write down the key symbols from your dream in one column, your own interpretation in a second column and then, lastly, the dream dictionary definition in the third. This correlates a lot with the method we use in the "dream group" I belong to.

The Dream Book by Betty Bethards is the most empowering and uplifting dream interpretation book I have ever read. It has inspired me to be more faithful to my dream journal because I am encouraged by the symbols in my dreams. Dream symbol meanings in other books I have read have left me feeling discouraged and not wanting to face the "me" in my dreams. Bethard's book helps me to desire knowing more of "me." I gave my last copy to a good friend and am reordering another for myself and for another good friend.

Forget about every other dream book on the market. Mostly all they do is get a bunch of dream books, look up the symbols and then come up with a bland idea of what something means. Betty Bethards is very, very different! Betty is an incredible psychic and has written many books on the subject including Be Your own Guru. She is a psychic first, not a book writer. These interpretations go into the depth of your soul defining experiences you explain through your won dreams. Reading her interpretations at times will give you chills as you get that "aha" moment, realizing something occurring in your life was bothering you, but right beneath the surface. You did not realize it yet. I have practically got this book memorized. It is that good
