Book Description

A typical American family on the verge of emotional collapse, take a vacation together to visit a secluded mountain Lodge resort in hopes of regaining the ties of a family bond that has been severed.
Their holiday away to find each other soon becomes a struggle for their very survival when they are suddenly thrust into a wild and unpredictable land filled with unnatural and deadly threats at every turn.
The question is no longer will they regain what they have lost from each other, but rather how will they survive, 'the drive'.

Review

This started off quite stodgily. I thought I might have to give up but luckily I persevered because it opened up into the most amazing multi-layered story. The title might refer to the original drive out to the campsite or the drive to survive or even the drive to escape wherever they had found themselves with their lives. Brian's slow descent into almost madness at all that is thrown at him is tangible and my heart went out to his suffering. After the initial slowness, the book took off and I found myself devouring page after page. So much so that I read it in two sittings. This is a very cleverly written horror/suspense that gives far more than is initially obvious. It will appeal to anyone. --wistfulskimmie - Wistfulskimmies Book Reviews...

After just finishing The Drive, I must say that it kept me tense, thrilled and wondering. I have never read a book that had me feeling claustrophobic, full of awe, wondering what would happen next and joyful, all in the same book. I was impressed at how many different elements were so well blended together. And on top of it, to throw in a realistic family dynamic, a hard task to start with. S.J. Johnson does a thoroughly impressive job of weaving a spellbinding if sometimes frightening tale. A must read. --Skip410

4.0 out of 5 stars Very readable June 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Despite a few type errors, it was a very good read. I'd downloaded it to my Kindle, but my husband was the one who started reading it first.

It kept me guessing throughout and I was left speechless at the ending.

Well worth the time to read it.

4.0 out of 5 stars SPOOKY! May 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read the entire book in one sitting. It was an eerie book, and the author did a good job of describing the surroundings. I could really picture the thick fog and weird sandy ground. It kept my interest throughout. There were a few typos, but nothing bad. There were several curse words that I would have preferred not to see, though. Other than that, I enjoyed it. I went back and read the first of the book at the end. (You'll know who the men are in the prologue if you do). Would loved to have known what happened to the main characters...It leaves you guessing, or maybe there will be a sequel?

HUGE amount of typos and poor sentence structure. Might be interesting to young science fiction readers but much too fanciful and disjointed for me. Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars No editing?
I was excited to read this after reading other reviews. Unfortunately, I was distracted by errors such as "heal" v. "heel" and could not become immersed in the story.
