I Really Dug This,
This review is from: The Drorgon Slayer's Choice (Kindle Edition)
It's an involving blend of humour, fantasy and romance with several nods towards some of the genuine mysteries of human prehistory and evolution. The author has a nice ear for dialogue too. Very enjoyable and well worth the read.

Entertaining fantasy romance,

I don't read many short stories, though I do enjoy them occasionally. I recently (just now) read The Drorgon Slayer's Choice by Tahlia Newland and found myself enjoying the fantasy/light romance.Julia is on her break from work, hoping to get some coffee when she bumps her head after a fall. After dusting herself off, she sits down and notices that everything is brighter, she can see and hear better....and oops! Suddenly she's seeing some disturbing things. Like a giant octopus and people fighting this thing. Only no one else seems to notice. What follows is an entertaining beginning of a romance. Julia follows the fighters to a new location and gets noticed by one of them- a handsome one. The rest is kind of a sweet beginning to a romance. And even though I'm not really into the romance formulaic style of writing, I enjoyed this, because it wasn't too heavy handed with all the romance buzzwords about how hot people are. I found Ms Newland's style of writing easy to read, and the dialog (which can be a deal breaker for me) was fitting. Of course, this being a short story - things move a bit fast, and there's an interesting fantasy twist to the heaven and hell (differing planets). For the price of a candy bar, you can read this short story yourself, and it's less calories than candy. LOL. Give it a try - Tahlia Newland has a fine writing style and can sure write an entertaining read.

An engaging read from start to finish - love, humor, & philosophy,
This review is from: The Drorgon Slayer's Choice (Kindle Edition)
It isn't often that I dapple in either the fantasy or romance genres, but I'm so glad I did this time. The way the human main character is essentially led by the hand into this supernatural world really ushered me into it as well. The story's pacing and relatively light tone make it a fun page-turner, and I particularly enjoyed the bite-sized bits of philosophy that it packages in such an interesting alternate reality to visualize. Overall, "The Drorgon Slayer's Choice" is an engaging read from start to finish, literally right down to its last line, which so cleverly and concisely gives it a satisfying end.

Unexpected...,

This review is from: The Drorgon Slayer's Choice (Kindle Edition)
I can honestly say this was unexpected. It seemed to start a little after the beginning and was quite a bit shorter than I expected. I was thinking that this story was incomplete. Maybe the rest of the story is told if you purchase the whole set of stories? I don't know, as a free read it was expensive (the time it took to read) versus the enjoyment (as I said, it left me feeling incomplete). The author definitely has a good and new idea that I thought was interesting. I suggest if you think you may like it based on other reviews, get the whole book or series or whatever this is a part of, because as is, it leaves one feeling like they just ate a whole meal and missed swallowing a bite.... still hungry.

Drorgon's Slayer's Choice,
By Sheilagh Lee "S.G.Lee" (Canada) - See all my reviews

The Drorgon's Slayer's ChoiceBy Tahlia Newland Julia finds hits her head and that is when her journey begins learning about the Gods and their purpose and how she could help. This is a story of renewal and romance as Julia is offered her heart's desire but must prove that she is worthy of it. An enchanting story the reader can really enjoy from the beginning to the end. 4 '''' stars out of 5 ''''' |
