This was a short, fun, sweet novella that I really enjoyed. Venus Collingswood decides to go for a dip in her neighbors lake one last time before the new owners arrive in a few days. Besides, her dog is having fun in the water and it is blasted hot out. Just as she is about to dive in, she slips and is grabbed up by some very strong arms....male arms of a man just as unclothed as she is. Quite a fun interaction occurs and even though the man identifies himself as the new duke, Venus thinks he is jesting as he seems much to young and decides he must be the cousin instead. As Andrew Valentine, Duke of Greycliffe, is hoping to just be himself, not his title, he sees no harm in letting her think this for the time being. Naturally, problems arise as to him hiding his true identity and it puts the happiness of not just Venus in jeopardy, but that also of her sister.

This is a quick prequel novella to a new series that will feature Venus as an adult matchmaking for her sons and I found it delightful! It is a wonderful mix of humor, sassiness, love, and warmth with just a touch of heat at the end. This was my first read of Sally MacKenzie and if she can make a few hours fly by as fast as she did with this novella, I think I am in for a treat for her full length novels! This is a perfect afternoon treat for a spring day that is sure to leave a smile on your face and I am anxious to see more of Venus and Drew!

I happen to be a fan of novellas, but I didn't realize this was a novella. I just went back and looked, and yes, down below all of the reviews it says that this ebook is 31,000 words. The publisher needs to place this statement after the description, not the reviews. That being said - I liked this little story, although there were a couple of things that I rolled my eyes over -mainly the character's names. Venus and Aphrodite? Really? Okay...moving on. The story was humorous and the characters well developed in a short amount of time, but I had a hard believing that Venus could go from angry to in love in the space of a couple of paragraphs. Beyond that, I found the novella entertaining and a fun read. I like this author's style and the humor she adds to her books (although I think the "naked" meet ups are a bit overused at this point -time to come up with something new).

This novella had potential. The story is very cute, with no real dastardly deeds going on. A duke masquerades as his cousin, meets and falls in love with a country vicar's daughter, etc. etc.

I enjoyed the story, although it really needed just a bit more polish. It was going along quite well and then suddenly....it ends with a very contrived plot twist. It's like the author had hit her page limit and had to wrap things up in 3 pages or less. It just didn't go with the rest of the story and I was disappointed.

Still, it's cute and since I downloaded it as a free selection, I'll give it a pass and 3 stars.

From the characters' names to the plot this is a piece of whimsy. I gave it 2 for the writing. It is actually well writen. It is a pity that the story is so silly as the style could carry a better tale. It is lightly comedic with a good frisson of romance. But I could not get past the silly subterfuge of Venus swimming naked in a pond and being disturbed by the duke. Not 4 days later she is flinging herself into his arms there again - once more naked.

This is probably one of the lowest caliber romance novels I've ever read. From the naming of the characters Aphrodite, Venus, Mr. Valentine... cheesy. Honestly, this reminds me of what a high school girl would write for her creative writing class. It lacks any depth, there is no real plot and it was so deeply predictable that it wasn't even entertaining. It is also incredibly short. I was shocked when I realized I was halfway through the book. I read the entire thing, start to finish in around an hour.

This shouldn't be a book, this should be the synopsis before you write the book.

A first read for me. This author is a rare find. The way in which she weaved this story was in the style of the old greats of the genre. The heroin, a hopeless romantic and a duke trying to escape an unwanted identity. But the skinny-dipping had me going for a minute. Overall great read. Will be in the kindle store grabbing more of her work...

I enjoyed this short story, it was LOL fun and somewhat young and innocent romance, not too racy by any means, but still enjoyable enough for a quick read.

Drew & Venus had awesome witty banter and all the secondary character's were easy to like as well.

I couldn't believe the lack of intelligent writing, and a more fully and deeply developed plot, in this story that had such potential. I didn't want to finish it. Also there's so much important information in the story that is skipped between this story, (which seems to be an introduction into the story of the duchesses now grown son, Ned) why didn't they just write a page or two and then be done with it?
It is my first time choosing an e- read book from Kindle with an unknown author. It is also my last. I don't believe this story is really worth purchasing and downloading. I am glad that it was free, as even then I feel cheated for wasting my time. I would not encourage anyone else to purchase this simply written, conventional story with tired plot lines, and written in junior high level, although targeted for an adult audience.
