This book has some interesting data, but I get the impression the author had the conclusion before the research.
Dr. Bauerlein pretty much lets the schools off the hook in "The Dumbest Generation" but I believe that the "dumbing down" of the curriculum is the root cause.
It didn't say why we are dumb, just saying that everything we like is adolecent fare, and that we don't read enough.
