About the Author

Catheryn J. Brockett is a writer, actor, and comedian. The idea for The Dysfunctional Family Funbook sprang from standup routines about her visits back to the family homestead. After enough twisted holidays and one ludicrous funeral, a book was born. Catheryn has appeared on TV and starred in dozens of commercials, advertising everything from vacuum cleaners to Icelandic banks. She lives in Los Angeles.

This book is fun, fun, fun.

She is smart and funny and helps to make you laugh at the craziness of family instead of just wanting to poke your own eyes out.

I highly recommend this book as a gift or as a great coping mechanism.

I purchased this book for an extended family member who was going through a difficult time. From the minute she opened it the laughter started. The whole family joined in and actually "bonded" over their recognized dysfunction. It completely lightened the mood. Outstanding book! I highly recommend it-especially for the holidays!!!

The main thing that I LOVE about this book is not only is it hilarious and really fun but it also has some very sincere and GREAT advice on actually coping with your time at home...! Ms. Brockett combines some fun and delightfully silly games and activities with some real world coping mechanisms...affirmations, meditations and some suggestions for activities that will actually make your stay with your family bearable! She is smart and funny and helps to make you laugh at the craziness of family instead of just wanting to poke your own eyes out. It's an awesome gift for YOURSELF, a good friend and especially...in my case...your siblings!!!

This book is just a really fun way to survive your family if they make you crazy (and whose family doesn't - right!?) I am a huge fan of word games and crafty stuff and wiling away hours doing silly projects... this book is perfect for that. Plus there is the added bonus of the last chapter - coping. It is fun and self helpy without actually being self helpy! Yay! I am definitely buying some more copies for my friends.

This is a gem of a book! Catheryn Brockett takes an uproarious look at dealing with your dysfunctional family as a functioning adult, while cleverly reverting back to activities we all remember from our childhoods. Connect the dots, word scrambles, "bad" libs, and laugh out loud stuff like completely inappropriate responses to the same old questions like "have you gained weight?" Your response: "My new boyfriend says he likes a little junk in the trunk". Hint: do not miss the word problems on p. 37! Makes a great gift, but buy an extra copy for yourself, as I suspect you'll not want to give it up once you've flipped through it.

The book is great. Bordering on brilliant, then it tells brilliant that it was a mistake and it had to give up its dreams to take care of it. Now that's dysfunctional!

Seriously, though, it's a (darkly) hilarious concept, and Brockett pulls it off at every flip of the page. It's full of witty asides and tongue-in-cheek advice that spark mini epiphanies, causing you to shout out, "Yes! That's so true!" in between guffaws. Brockett hits the nail on the head, over and over again... and all in an easy-to-swallow, beautifully published activity book! Get out your Crayolas and let the healing begin.

My mother has been married five times and my father has been married three times. With that comes a lot of dysfunction AND a lot of step-siblings. I got a copy of this book and one for each of my five siblings and gave it to them over my holiday visit. It was hours of fun doing the activities together. It brought us all a little closer and even brought us to tears from laughing so hard. I highly recommend this book as a gift or as a great coping mechanism. I loved it!

I bought the 'Dysfunctional Family Funbook' on a whim, thinking that it would be fun to read on the plane ride home to see the folks. I LOVED it so much that I bought 10 copies to give out as Christmas gifts. What a great stocking stuffer! Keep 'em coming, Ms. Brockett!

More About the Author

Catheryn J. Brockett is a writer, actor and comedian who has performed theatre, improv and sketch comedy in New York and L.A. She has read her original work at spoken word venues all over Los Angeles. Formerly co-producing the monthly show Lip Service.

She has appeared in over a dozen commercials - and is particularly proud to have worked with Sydney Pollack (yes - he shot a commercial!), Spike Lee and a very surly kangaroo. Her television appearances include Desperate Housewives, True Blood, Criminal Minds and can be seen getting punched in the face on The Mentalist.

Originally from Maryland she graduated from St. Mary's College magna cum laude with degrees in history and theatre (which is pretty much good for the yellow pie wedge in trivial pursuit). She worked for several years in the artistic hotbed of government industrial films before moving to New York to learn to become a real actor - which she found out involves wearing lots of black and not being able to afford to eat fruit. But that is not why she moved to L.A. She moved to LA in pursuit of the perfect sitcom role (and affordable fruit.)

Her book The Dysfunctional Family Funbook! provides a great way to survive your dysfunctional family. The Mega Mini Kit is also tremendously useful. She is currently working on a book and a show about her recent experience with breast cancer. Check out the blog - CancerCation.
