Editorial Reviews

Tenor saxophonist Eddie Barefield was almost 70 when he recorded this session. Barefield played with Cab Calloway and Benny Moten early in his career. Despite his skills on clarinet and alto sax, the tenor sax is his favorite instrument on this CD; as can be heard, he is a great swinging tenor player. The tunes are all mostly reworkings on standards which are easily recognizable. This is one of the few dates Barefield made under his own name; one that certainly establishes him on the tenor sax.

Collective personnel: Warren Vache, John Bunch, Milt Hinton, Mousie Alexander, Jon Faddis, Bucky Pizzarelli, Panama Francis.
