Paull's book is a very personal account of the many large tortoises he owns. It has some useful information I haven't seen elsewhere (one of the more memorable tips told how to line a rental truck with plastic so your large tortoises won't pee all over it) and is highly entertaining if you like opinionated books. However, most of the information here is readily available elsewhere. The book is self-published & not particularly well bound. The price is very high, probably because it was produced in small runs (looks like it was done at Kinko's, but who knows). My very favorite part is the chapter on selling tortoises: Paull says, don't! Herpers are weird & don't have money! Raise orchids instead: orchid fanciers are doctors & have lots of money; you can buy tortoises with the money you get for your orchids! This should give you a feel for the book. Recommended for collectors only.

Richard Paull has provided a first in tortoise literature with a wonderful listing of nutritional information to assist the enthusiast in the sometimes difficult task of providing a proper diet for tortoises. His efforts to compile such information has truly simplified the task of feeding my indoor collection which includes Red Feet and Leopard toroises. Richard provides a great list of calcium rich foods that are so important to the health of your tortoise. I highly recomend this book be added to your library.
