Book Description

Fifty years in the future, people still kill. And when they do, the men and women of Central Agency take up the case.

When a rich old man is brutally murdered, detective Richard Dashiell loses all patience for protocol.

Rookie inspector Natalia Helenas, assigned to the same case, finds herself caught between respect for her partner and respect for the rules.

As the investigation leads them from the immaculate halls of a cutting-edge medical business, to the seedy chambers of a twisted sex club, Helenas and Dashiell learn that sometimes not even the dead get to rest in peace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good book that I did not like June 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
While it sounds like an oxymoron - the book is great. I just did not like it. There is nothing to take issue with. The writing is excellent. Editing is excellent. The characters were well fleshed. There was a complete and well developed plot. Many people will enjoy this tale. Especially those who like futuristic and noir genres. This is not my cup of tea is all. That is solely personal reflection and not related to any shortfall of book. Hence the 5 stars as they were justifiably earned.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky delight March 23, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Mr. Broma must be something of a joker, as his protagonist in this retro noir detective novelette is named Dashiell, after Dashiell Hammett, the author of detective novels who pretty much defined the genre. Chain-smoking, hard-boiled, gun-toting (and this in a future world where guns are no longer permitted!), the Dashiell of this story even has a young female assistant, whom I picture to be at least as attractive as those on TV. In fact, this story would be great on TV, right down to its surprise ending. A great read. Kudos to the cover illustrator, too, for cleverly catching the essence of the story.

4.0 out of 5 stars The New Noir April 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
A detective novel with science fiction elements. It's dark with twists that seized my curiosity. The first offering from Don Broma shows this author has promise. I look forward to more from him.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Novella May 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a great little mystery science fiction tale.

It's like Raymond Chandler and Philip K. Dick decided to get together and write a story. It's a quick read, with great suspense and shows great promise from a new author. Looking forward from the next one from Broma!

More About the Author

M.F. Soriano got his first job at the age of twelve. In the more than two decades that have passed since then, he's worked as a nurseryman in a tree farm, a deckhand on a tall ship, a front desk receptionist in a psychological services center. He's been a bartender in Britain, an English teacher in Spain, and a drummer for a rock band in Mexico. Through it all, ever since he first sat down and actually thought of what he wanted to do for a living, he's wanted to be a writer.
