About the Author

Ralph Turek holds the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Composition from the University of Cincinnati College -- Conservatory of Music. He has held teaching posts at George Mason University, the University of Maryland, and The University of Akron, where he is Professor of Music Composition and Coordinator of Graduate Studies. He is the author of The Elements of Music: Concepts and Applications and of Analytical Anthology of Music, both published by McGraw-Hill.

In Theory for Today's Musician, the author brings to bear insights and pedagogy acquired over a long career of teaching music theory, analysis, and composition informed by a background in jazz and arranging; as well as other experience that includes program annotation and fiction writing. I am a student, and I am currently using this book. This book continues on from the first volume in a successful way. It makes learning Neopolitan chords a little easier; it explains everything clearly, and allows the student to apply it in the right way. Good informative book.

I've been using this book in my music theory class at Portland Community College for the past 2 terms and it is easy to work with. There are many examples by J.S. Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, and others to illustrate the ideas Ralph Turek presents. It's a great book for beginners, however some of the points aren't explained in simple terms which can sometimes confuse the reader. I give it 4 stars.

My book came in the mail quickly and well-packaged. I was very pleased with my order and would feel confident buying some textbooks from this seller next semester if they keep their low prices.
