I've been selling for nearly 30 years and felt Chris did a nice job of outlining the key points to a solid "elevator" pitch. My only criticism is that I think the message could have been conveyed appropriately in a third of the pages. Level of detail felt like overkill, which is ironic given the very subject of the book. Full disclosure: I'm not much of a book reader given the massive volume of information I'm already absorbing day to day in my high-tech sales career. I favor the "net it out" exec summ approach.

Most college courses require students to give a presentation and, of course, utilize communication skills in some way. Unless faculty teach communication, students are typically left to their own devices to figure out what is expected of them and how their communication skills will be graded. When I read The New Elevator Pitch, I immediately thought to myself, "Wow, this succinct, meaty, informative, realistic read should be mandatory reading for every college student in any course." If that were the case, students would gain a host of skills for presentations and general communication skills, alike.

Chris Westfall has taken a topic that I am somewhat forced to teach from a theoretical perspective and has given it a conversational, chock-full-of-examples format that is accessible and feels extremely doable. Even though my students use a textbook, I know I will refer to this book for an easier, more real-world way to present the information. Likewise, I will recommend the book as an ancillary to non-comm faculty so they have an excellent resource to help their students with these critical skills.

I realize the book is ultimately about persuasive communication, but I personally see the message as useful for myriad contexts. Pick up this book and see for yourself.

A wonderful workbook for raising your awareness and skills at connecting with people in 2 minutes or less. One
of the things I've found key with learning any skill is practice, and Chris's book is full of practical questions and
exercises -- all designed to be done in 2 minutes -- that can anchor the principles he teaches and turn them into
practical use. The book is written in a clear, conversational style, with examples of both what to do...and what
not to do...and I found myself experimenting with different ways to communicate my own message as a result.
A great resource for anyone wanting to enhance their ability to connect with people in a relevant way...and ultimately,
as Chris teaches, to create the result -- in 2 minutes or less -- of someone saying "Tell Me More..."
