I used to have my daughter read aloud to me from McGuffey's, but she really didn't like the often times stilted language. I switched her to this reader and she begs to read aloud more (which she normally complains about). The stories are very interesting, and varied in content and genre (poetry, plays, short stories, fables, etc). Most are classic tales (Aesop's Fables, Native American stories, etc), which encourage her to think about what she has read. They often open doors for wonderful discussion. All that we have read thus far has been wholesome, most with a moral. The language is engaging and challenging. I am not at all bored by the stories, and she loves them. The grade level seems to be appropriate both in content and reading abiity. I highly recommend this reader!
