Product Description

PLAN YOUR DAY AS IT HAPPENS It's hard enough to just get a few things done, given the number of distractions we face every day. Just a little bit of focus and simple time estimation goes a long way toward making progress, and that's often good enough. The Emergent Task Planner is designed to provide a relaxed-yet-focused approach to daily time management.

HOW TO USE IT At the beginning of the day, sit with your coffee and one sheet of ETP paper. Note the three or so really important things you need to do, and estimate how long you think it'll take in one sitting. Mark this time on the pad in the "things to do" area. Then, figure out when in the day you'll do it and box it in in the day grid area.

As the day goes on, refer to this sheet to keep focused on what you really want to do. There's ample room for keeping notes and scribbling down what else is happening. At the end of the day, review how you did, and refer to the sheet on the next morning as you fill out the new one.

The 8.5x11" paper in these pads is a thick, durable stock that is opaque enough to prevent ink from showing through (tested with a Lamy Safari medium-nib fountain pen). It's also tough enough to not disintegrate when an eraser or coffee spill comes in contact with it. If you punch your own disc notebooks, it'll hold very well.

NOTE: See item B0083A0YLO if you need a stiffer cardboard backer for improved portability. The cardboard backer for this item is to keep the sheets together on your desk until you need them; it is not thick enough to support the weight of all the paper by itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for productivity November 14, 2009

I'm thrilled that this product is available on Amazon since I've always been a fan of David Seah's Printable CEO series. I'm honestly not sure I'd be productive without it. I can definitely say it helps keep me on track.

5.0 out of 5 stars Focuses my time November 24, 2011
By Dan D.

I have used the ETP form printed from the website, but having this pad to grab every morning makes filling it out seem like more of an organized process, and helps me get going on my work for the day. Using the form makes me plan ahead, resulting in less time wasted on procrastinating activities.
Paper quality and print design are excellent.
A few suggestions for improvement (that would probably increase the cost though): a sturdier cardboard backing, include Dave's directions for using the form with the pad, use a bold red ink instead of the orange color.

Just curious: why does the first bubble on the left start with 15 minutes after the hour? It seems to me is should start at the hour (00) and subsequent bubbles for that hour would be 15, 30, and 45. It doesn't matter though because the person using the form can fill in whatever they want in those bubbles for the rest of the day.

This pad more than pays for itself in the increased productivity I have when I use it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Billable work December 27, 2011

This is a great way to keep track of your day - for both meetings and work accomplished. This is especially good for those of us who work on multiple projects and have to record billable hours. Now, there's no wondering how long I spent working on anything, as long as I remember to note it every time I switch gears.

5.0 out of 5 stars This may have saved my job. December 2, 2012

A little background. At the time I ordered this, I had an interesting boss. He is a nice guy, but every day our #1 priorities (of course there were plural #1 priorities) would change. This made it extremely difficult for me to keep up and feel like I was accomplishing anything.

I don't recall how I found these, but I am so glad I did. I don't know that I used them as designed, but every day (or the night before), I would write down 2-3 things that I thought I absolutely needed to get done for the day. Then throughout the day, I would use the time blocks to show myself how I spent my time. So if I was in a meeting from 10-11, I would write that in that space on the page. If I worked on project X from 13:00 - 14:00, I would document that as well. What this allowed me to do, was keep a sort of "time journal" of where I was spending my time, and helped me figure out what work was getting me results, and what was merely taking up my time. From there, I was able to excuse myself from some the "time robbers"

I would love to tell you that I shared this with my boss, and he saw the value immediately and was able to help me be more effective. It didn't work that way. I did share it with him and explained how he could help me use this to be more effective for him. He nodded his head, told me that was great, and continued on his way. Can't win them all...

If you go to Dave Seah's website, you can print these off, as well as a number of other productivity tools that are good. The difference that I found is that the paper is a heavy stock paper which holds up well throughout the day, as well as being a pad which is nice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps me on track for the day July 20, 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
I had never heard of David Seah before I found this product on Amazon. Since then, I've read some of his blog posts. I really like his down-to-earth, pragmatic approach to organization.

I use this every day. Every morning, I sit down and plot my day listing the meetings I have on the left and the non-time-dependent tasks I need to do on the top right. I like that he stresses to focus on the most important tasks and advises against listing everything I COULD do. The bottom right hand section is for free form notes and observations I have during the day.

I really like that this form keeps me focused on what I need to do during the day. I am more productive because of it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for those busy days February 6, 2012
I have used David's productivity tools for years, and the Emergent Task Planner is one of my favorites. It's perfect for those busy days when I have to schedule my time extra carefully to get everything done. It's also great for days when I'm struggling to focus and need some additional structure. As with all of David's products, it's both useful and attractive.

4.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Productivity Form February 6, 2011

I had used the free ones from Seah's website, and wanted to support him publishing them and making a little money since he has provided them for free for so long.

The forms are colorful, printed on thick paper, and easy to use.
