Amazon.com has mistakenly filed both the supplement and the original 4 volume set of this excellent reference work under the same heading. The really expensive one is the original set!

While I was in college, I used my pastor's set almost weekly. These books have entries into just about any major topic of philosophy one might think of, and the entries are so thorough and insightful that one actually comes away knowing new things about a topic one might have considered themselves fairly knowledgeable on. As well, many obscure and marginalized thinkers and ideas are covered, making this set perhaps the most exhaustive and sweeping single resource available in the English language.
I finally got my own set (used), and am quite glad I did. A must-own for any thinker who can afford or locate it.
