When Skeeter Davis, a country singer once married to Ralph Edwards, recorded "The End of the World" in the early '60s, I'm sure she never envisioned its various incarnations. Be careful as to which version of her song you choose; it's not a question of live vs. studio. There are different studio versions of the song! And while they are all hauntingly beautiful, the one that played on AM radio is just a little bit better (I think that this is the 99 cent version). I read somewhere that she had decided in the 80's not to perform this song again, but I took my children to the Grand Ole Opry matinee in the mid 90's and she was there, and she sang "The End of the World", and she broke my heart with her beautiful voice. This song was also covered by Expose'; their version is very different, but still quite good.

Just a little comment, about "The End Of The World"; I've been absolutely "killed softly" by Skeeter's version; Recently I came across an MP3 that I purchased featuring Brenda Lee (Little Miss Dynamite) performing "The End Of The World", and I Love It, too.
