General Synopsis:
After the events of Children of the God's, Stargate Command must face several challenges that have risen in the face of recent events. While attempting to search for Dr. Jackson's missing wife, Stargate Command is under siege by the warriors of the Goa'uld. Meanwhile the Pentagon is determined to question Teal'c against O'Neill's wishes and Major Kawalski takes ill and is sent to the infirmary.
During a briefing about Stargate technology Dr. Jackson notices an absent minded Kawalski standing before an inactive gate. After being returned to the infirmary extensive testing is ordered to find the cause of Kawalsky's current condition. While medical staff attend to the Major, Colonel Kennedy from the Pentagon gets his chance to question Teal'c. Teal'c, after pledging his allegiance to earth, answers the Colonel's questions to the best of his ability and informs them of the Goa'uld species.
Exhausted by events, Dr. Jackson seeks a place to rest, only to find the body of one of the medical staff that was attending to Major Kawalski. In the infirmary Major Kawalski attacks a physician and takes Captain Carter hostage. After being cornered in an elevator, Kawalski appears normal and has no recollection of the events that just transpired. After once again returning to the infirmary the team learns that Kawalski has been invaded by a Goa'uld symbiote.
After a dangerous surgical procedure, Kawalski appears normal, however the Goa'uld has shed his physical body and has blended with the Major's mind. Determined to escape through the gate, Kawalski attacks the Airmen and scientists in the control room in order to dial out. With this achieved Kawalski approaches the gate only to be stopped by Teal'c. Held by Teal'c, O'Neill orders the gate shutdown, an act that results in the Majors death.

My Views:
Concluding the two part episode, part two achieves many things. The biggest achievement has to be how the team begins to mold as a unit. Becoming dependent on each other to solve goals, each member has to contribute their own talents in order to overcome adversity. Losing a key person in the Stargate family sets in stone how the others will act with each other.
The episode also sets the stage for who the Goa'uld are as a species and how much of a threat they are to people of Earth. The challenge the team will face in the future is portrayed within the writing of Kawalski's death by the command of O'Neill. Having to end the life of a dear friend only goes to show how determined the Colonel and the rest of the team are to protecting Earth. Another great episode that is the foundation of the franchise.
