Book Description

Cora discovers her father is in trouble… and the only person who can help her is the enemy’s son, Nick Holloway.

Her father couldn’t have stolen a million dollars, so how is he going to replace it? In one week?

Nick is ordered to take Cora out into the wilderness to a remote cabin to keep her father in line. He claims he wants to help Cora and says he’s deceiving the Hollways to keep her safe…but what if he’s playing both sides? He could be using her attraction to him against her. Cora can’t allow herself to trust Nick, no matter how sexy he is.

Nick isn’t the only one offering to help. Alexander Pierce could scare the devil but he can also track down anyone in a day. He warns Cora that if she wants to find her father alive, he’s the way. Is it possible both Nick and Alexander have secret feelings for her? With her dad's life on the line, she might have to play her own little game.

Soon she’s running from her feelings for Nick, running from creepy Alexander and the rest of the Holloways, and trying to find her father somewhere in the city of Eugene. To make matters worse, everyone thinks she has access to the missing money.

The clock is ticking…

***

"After reading "A Cowboy for Christmas" I didn't think that any other of Kristen's books would match up to it, but this one certainly did, it had me on the edge of my seat, wanting to keep reading till the end, and I did, not moving till I had finished it. At times I didn't know if Nick or Alexander was the good guy, it twisted and turned from page to page, it kept you in the dark about the truth right till the end, it wasn't predictable at all. A fantastic story, highly recommended!" ~reader review, UK Kindle

Teaser:

This could be dangerous. She broke away from Nick’s intense look and scanned the trees around them. “We’re not safe here.”

“These mountains are huge. It’d take a miracle to find us.” He ran his finger down her jaw line and backtracked to trace just under her lip. “I’m certain they headed back by now, thinking they’re behind us or missed us.”

While speaking, he looked into her eyes like she was the only thing in the universe. His brown eyes reflected the greens and blues around them while showing a wild display of primal desire and promise. She saw it coming this time, but didn’t swim away. Their lips met in urgency and picked up where they had left off before.

She felt lost, and there wasn’t anything but Nick, his arms around her, his hands melding to the curves of her body, his kiss awakening her feminine side. His hands ran down her hips and shock waves washed through her. For several blissful minutes, she didn’t have a care in the world. She only wanted more and more of him.

Then, she remembered her dad. The money. Alexander.

“James has a great way with words and builds very realistic characters. I really enjoyed this story [More Than Memories] and although I usually do not go for romance, the relationship between Trent and Molly held my attention as they searched through their past to piece together the detail of Molly’s mysterious disappearance.” Reader review, also rated 5 stars by The Fictional Bookshelf and BigAl’s Books n Pals.

“Kristen James has done it again with another romance novel to warm your heart. [A Cowboy For Christmas] She has created truly down to earth and like-able characters with Missy and Brent. The story is perfect for the holidays! Not too long, not too short, I finished the book in about a day. Like her other book, More Than Memories, you become immersed in the story, the plot and the descriptive scenery.” Reader Review

“A Cowboy for Christmas is a great romance for the holidays or anytime you like. A bit fun and flirty read that will not disappoint.” Coffee Time Romance

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your usual romance! A must read. April 10, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Kristen James has done it again! Only this time her spin on romance is suspense and intrigue. Although, I have to say that instead of the romance with a dash of suspense tossed in, it's more of a fifty/fifty equation. There is enough action to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, waiting to see what will happen to Cora and her father.

Cora has a very close relationship with her father. After all, he is all she has left. So Cora is admittedly spooked when her dependable father doesn't show up to dinner. She's even more confused when a very swoon-worthy man named Nick comes up to tell her that her father is okay but unable to make it to dinner. Cora then makes the worst mistake of her life... she follows Nick, sure that he knows where her father is.

Unfortunately what she's stumbles upon puts her life in danger. It appears that her father is accused of embezzling money from his employer, Keith Holloway, and now Cora needs to clear his name before they kill him. Her only accomplice is Nick, the enemy's son. To make matters more complicated he's attractive and she's falling for him. Now she's on a race against time, and the towns biggest drug suppliers, to clear herself and save her father.

Who can she trust, is Nick really on her side? Will she able to clear her father? Can she escape the clutches of Keith's evil henchman Alexander, who has a sick attraction to her? I guess you'll have to read the book to find out! Kristen James does a great job of not overwhelming the reader with super sweet romance and over the top sex scenes. The fast plot is enough to grab the reader and hold their attention. A definite recommendation for the romance reader in you!

I was not paid for this review. I downloaded the book on a free day.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work for me May 24, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This romantic mystery began decently enough. The heroine, Cora, is waiting for her father in a cafe for a dinner date. She begins to worry when he doesn't show and she can't reach him by phone. It's completely unlike him to not contact Cora if he has a problem. When she can no longer stand the worry Cora leaves. When she gets outside she runs into the hero of the story, Nick. There's an immediate attraction between the two, but Cora is also a little wary of the way Nick behaves. She becomes suspicious of Nick when he tells her that her father is unable to make their dinner. She manages to brush him off and then follows him to see if she can find her father. This is when Cora finds herself in a world of trouble she never saw coming. Threats are made, kidnapping is involved, embezzlement of a million dollars takes place, bad guys abound, and a chase is on. Who can really be trusted, and who is truly evil?

The mystery part of the book is good. The author added several attention grabbing plot twists throughout. She also builds up tense moments in the book where the reader questions the outcome. However, the romance part of the book is lacking. The reader is supposed to believe Nick and Cora develop an intense desire for each other just because the author says they do. She never really shows this connection in the story. One moment we read where Cora distrusts Nick entirely, questions if she should trust him, to she's sorry she distrusted him altogether. They fall into bed with one another fairly quick. It just didn't seem believable.

I do wonder if an editor read this story prior to going public with the book. There were so many errors that it became ridiculous.

2.0 out of 5 stars I don't know where to begin with this... June 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Spoiler warning... Spoiler warning... Spoiler warning... Spoiler warning...

This book had potential, but left me amazed at the number of errors it contains; it appears that no one edited this book. It was full of spelling errors and misused words. The plot was so convoluted, that I can't really explain it, but I'll try.

Cora is a local television reporter, whose dad, Jerry works as an accountant for Keith Holloway, a well-known wealthy man. Cora is worried when Jerry doesn't meet her for an evening dinner at a restaurant. As she walks to her car, a man calls her name, and introduces himself as Nick. Nick tells her that Jerry is tied up and can't meet her, but doesn't tell her where he is. After a mutual staring contest, where they internally rhapsodize about how good-looking the other is, Nick asks her to dinner. Cora turns him down and gets into her car. She's worried and decides to follow Nick to see if he leads her to where Jerry is.

They end up at Keith's estate where she looks through a window and sees her father with Keith and young thug and it appears he's under duress. Cora is caught by Keith's main henchman, a scary guy named Alexander, who forces her to go inside the house. When Cora is momentarily left alone with Jerry, he tells her that someone has been skimming money for the past 5 years, and Keith believes he stole a million dollars from him. Keith tells them that they have nothing to worry about if he gets his money back. As Alexander pulls her away, Nick walks in and tells Alexander and his father that he will handle the situation. Nick takes her to his car, tells her he's Keith's son, but he's one of the good guys and will try to help protect her and her father (from his father and Alexander).

More About the Author

It was the beginning of fourth grade and I was terrified. I would have Mrs. Straight that year and all the older kids said she was scary and mean. Luckily she wasn't mean but simply strict, and she had high expectations for all her students. She was also caring. She noticed my artwork and put my 3D rendition of story The Trumpet of The Swan on display in the school library. Later she loved my first short story about a girl finding a unicorn in the forest and had me read it to an assembly of parents and other students. That was when I discovered I loved writing and sharing stories with other people. Mrs. Straight was diagnosed with cancer during the school year and died that summer. She was one of the many supporters in my life but someone I never got to thank. It's amazing what an impact we can make on others, and sometimes without ever knowing it.

I live in the Pacific Northwest and enjoy exploring the mountains and traveling to the nearby coast or even farther away to Canada or the beach in Costa Rica. My favorite activities, besides writing and reading, include cycling, fishing, hiking, running, berry picking, and about any outdoor activity with my family. My motto? Make life an adventure!
