I was fortunate to see Entrance play live last night in Denver, they seem to be under the radar still but their performance was absolutely stunning. Energy in huge doses and just simply excellent in every way, particularly considering I hadn't heard them on disc prior. They opened up for Amazing Baby, which has an excellent disc out but had a really tough time following this most "entrancing" and intense performance. The album is definitely solid, at least knowing what an incredible vibe they created live. See them if you can, they seem to be playing small venues but could easily be playing larger theaters with an impact.

Like the old rock sound of the 70's and early 80's kind of like R.E.M, Police, The Clash had a red head step child. Whould come out of hazy Purple Haze of Jimi's sock drawer. Would be on the turn table. This is the future of music.

I really love this album and this band. It doesn't sound vintage in anyway (thank god), but it does sound like one of the best bands out there.
I think a lot of people are afraid of this band getting popular, I for one hope they do. Maybe I just love 3-piece-bands, or maybe I just wish I lived in California where I could see these guys play all the time. Go see them live and listen to this record, they are amazing.

I wrote an earlier review in which I gave this record a lower rating & sharply attacked it for being overproduced & etc, but after dwelling on the album & what it represents I have come to a new conclusion. The other reviewer was right to call me out on my criticism, and though I still can't say I dig the track "Lives", I realized how harsh I was being towards a record that in all reality could be a major stepping stone towards a revival of real music within the popular consciousness. Yes, maybe some elements here do seem to be stepping in more of a "mainstream" direction, but is that really that bad? We already have Blakeslee's back catalog of recordings to return to, and if you ask me the more people listening to music like this the better! Let the Entrance Band be the psychedelic emissaries to the masses, we can only hope their gospel spreads like wildfire.
And anyways, if you don't dig the presentation here then go see them live! That's what it's all about anyways. |
