More About the Author

Best-selling "Letting Go" author Guy Finley's encouraging and accessible message is one of the true bright lights in our world today. His ideas cut straight to the heart of our most important personal and social issues - relationships, success, addiction, stress, peace, happiness, freedom - and lead the way to a higher life.

Finley is the acclaimed author of The Secret of Letting Go and more than 40 other books and audio programs that have sold over a million copies in 18 languages worldwide. In addition, he has presented over 4,000 unique self-realization seminars to thousands of grateful students throughout North America and Europe over the past 30 years and has been a guest on over 500 television and radio shows, including national appearances on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, NPR, Wisdom Network, and many others. His syndicated weekly radio program is aired on several international networks including Healthy Life Radio, Achieve Radio, Sedona Talk Radio, and Healthlife.net. Guy is a faculty member at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, New York and is a regular expert contributor to Beliefnet, the Huffington Post, and is a guest panelist for HuffPost Live.

Finley is Director of Life of Learning Foundation, the renowned non-profit Center for Self-study in Merlin, Oregon, and his popular Key Lesson e-mails are read each week by over 200,000 subscribers in 142 countries. His work is widely endorsed by doctors, business professionals, celebrities, and religious leaders of all denominations.

Guy's career reached this point through a circuitous path. Born into a successful show business family, he is the son of Late-Night TV and radio pioneer Larry Finley. His childhood friends were the sons and daughters of the most famous celebrities in the world. As a young man Guy enjoyed success in a number of areas including composing award-winning music for many popular recording artists including Diana Ross, Debbie Boone, The Jackson 5, Billy Preston, The Four Seasons, as well as writing the scores for several motion pictures and TV shows. From 1970-1979 he wrote and recorded his own albums under the Motown and RCA recording labels.

Throughout his youth, Guy suspected there was more to life than the type of worldly success that led to the emptiness and frustration he saw among his own "successful" friends and colleagues. In 1979, after travels throughout North America, India and the Far East in search of truth and Higher Wisdom, Guy voluntarily retired from his flourishing music career in order to simplify his life and to concentrate on deeper self-studies.

In addition to his writing and appearance schedule, Guy presents four inner-life classes each week at Life of Learning Foundation headquarters in Merlin, Oregon. These classes are ongoing and open to the public. For more information about Guy Finley, and his life-changing work, visit www.guyfinley.org

I've been a fan of Finley's books for awhile now. He really knows how to say it like it is.

I just got done reading this book and would recommend it highly. It makes the unusual but immensely important point that even if you fulfill all of your dreams, and become the most successful person in the world, what good is it if you still have to live with fear and stress like all of us do? It's a simple idea, but one that most every success and self-help book misses.

I would even go so far as to say that the ideas in this book should be taught to every human being at an early age. Can you imagine what a different planet we would have if we were all taught as children how to let go of negative states like fear, stress, resentment, and anger? There would be no more war, and everyone would be a lot more productive and happy.

The practical techniques are unique and powerful. The stories and inner-life descriptions are inspiring. Overall, I give it two thumbs up.

Finley combines new writings, his audio albums and previously written essays in this collection of 41 essays. His stated intent in the introduction is to "gently lead the reader in step-by-step sections into higher levels of self-understanding. I'm not certain this mission was accomplished with me. While I found some terrific insights and anecdotes to support them - I found too many sections obtuse (difficult to comprehend: not clear or precise in thought or expression), repetitive and circular in thinking. For crisp thinking and guidance with metaphysics, I found Eckhart Tolle, Wayne Dyer, Chopra, Don Miguel Ruiz - to be more effective.

I would have rated this book a 2 but for the well thought out insights below:

1) Nothing that resists life can hope to learn from it

2) Not wanting our negative states actually nourishes them.

3)Real learning requires surrender

4)The proof of the horse is in the ride. If the ride is punishing or meandering, we're in the wrong carriage. This royal power to discern dark horses from light ones is already ours; but to wield it, there is a key, a secret step that must be taken. This higher power to choose what will carry us and what won't - is only as powerful as our willingness to come to a special kind of psychic pause, an inner halt. By working to momentarily anchor ourselves in the present moment, we bring our own thoughts and feelings in the Light of consciousness to see them for what they are.

5) Wouldn't it be nice to be able to reach down inside of ourselves, grab hold of the controls of our own consciousness, and pull ourselves up. To quietly watch that would-be mountain of a problem, whatever it is, pass by harmlessly below us, even as we reach ever-higher and happier skies.

One of the section headings in Guy Finley's great new book, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living, is "Build the Foundation of a Fearless Life," and in fact, that's what this book is all about. It shows the reader, step-by-step, how to develop the inner strength to meet the world head-on, without fear, disappointment, regrets, recriminations, or any other negative state. All my life I've struggled with the voices in my head that held me back from living the way I really wanted to. Reading this book was like finding the key to a completely different kind of existence. It's clear that mastering the principles in this book could change everything for the person who really seeks a more fulfilling life.

Guy is an artist at word-weaving using logic and higher emotion to corner us beautifully into seeing our life the way it actually is so we may transcend it into living the truly beautiful life we were meant to live. Although I still very much enjoy Guy's earlier books, I love the way Guy's writing style has evolved over the years. This book is like a "best of" - for explaining the unexplainable.

The way the book is formatted is excellent also. The chapter headings, sub-chapter headings, introductory Key Lessons and summery Special Key Lessons in Review, make this self-enriching material, which has far deeper meaning then may appear at first reading, as easy to read as possible.

Most importantly though, the written material itself is to the point. This book boldly and beautifully shows the truth of our present and potential existence. I really like the Special Key Lessons in Review which are at the end of each and every chapter. My favorite line of the book is Special Key Lesson #5 from Chapter 2. To me it is the theme of the whole book and of our life experience here on earth and forevermore. It states, "Either we live in the freedom that we know is real - choosing to embody it in the moment, regardless of the cost - or we wave a flag called "liberty tomorrow" and suffer the indignity of serving what has already betrayed us." As always, thank you Guy for your hard work!

I highly recommend this book, The Essential Laws of Fearless Living, by Guy Finley.

After reading the great reviews on this book, I was eager to read it and eager to find a resource that I can pass on to others. I have enjoyed working on learning how to control my thoughts and thus my attitude and my energy and I know it has revolutionized how I live my life. I'm always looking for good books to recommend to others so they can "get it" and really get to live the life of their dreams.

This book is not one that I'd recommend to others who are trying to figure out the "how to" of living an amazing life. This book preaches to the choir, really speaking to those who are already living powerful lives. The book is esoteric and loaded with wisdom, but mostly lacking in any real details that would help someone comprehend how to implement this in their life.

The book has a number of interesting stories, but that's all they are. I often was left wondering, "OK, so now how does someone use that story in their own life?" An example from page 13 is quite typical: "Do the moment-to-moment work of dropping anything that wants to drag you down, and Truth itself will see to it that you rise." That's the end of the paragraph and the end of the section. Nice and esoteric, but not very helpful to most people in my opinion.

I debated whether to give this book 2 stars or 3 stars and finally decided on 3 stars because the content is OK, just not particularly helpful to someone who doesn't already grasp most of it.
