I first learned of Anandamayi Ma in "Autobiography of a Yogi." When I found this book and saw the divine bliss that radiates from Ma's presence, I felt an immediate desire to find out more about her and her life. I'm in awe of people with a genuine, unshakeable and fervent relationship to God. She is truly the divine in human form -- a lover of God like the great Sufi saints, the Hindu saints like Ramakrishna, the Christian mystics, and many others. Though she doesn't profess to being a guru the wisdom in her words is highly inspirational. I hope this book (which is also beautifully illustrated) touches your heart and soul as it did mine.

This book is attractive enough but Sri Anandamayi Ma deserves so much better, or so one might expect. She was described by Sri Nisagadatta Maharaj as the absolute. Those who recorded the works of Nisagadatta, Powell, Balsekar, Jory, Dunn and Frydman have done a sterling job in laying out the essential message. This book by comparison lacks such discipline and winds its way through a sugar rich historical build up to some limited works that seem to be uncomprehended by the author or editor.

The bliss permeated mother implies so much but it is not conveyed spiritually in this book. It can be read in a sitting with very little for contemplation. For those of us who tremble at a paragragh from the tiger Nisagadatta, there is no pathway to be found here to a bliss permeated mother for protection. I do not doubt that such a pathway exists but having read so many recorded texts dedicated to Sri Anandamayi Ma I do not think her devotees are developed enough to reveal it. We are all losers if this is the case. Looking forward to works that cut the cult adoration and heresay and get to the essential theme of selflesslenss and the absolute.

This is a great introductory book to the life and words of this extraordinary being. It will inspire you and bless you and you will not be the same person after you read it. It carries the essence of Anandamayi Ma in it and when you read it you will bring her presence into your life. If you enjoy this then try Timothy Conway's book, "Women of Power and Grace".

This book does indeed contain the essential position of Ma's life and thoughts. If you wish to begin walking a spiritual path, here is your starting point. Moreover, it gives a clear picture of what she was like, of her essential nature. What comes over so strongly is her ability to get straight to the heart of a question and give a clear, lucid answer. And she gave answers not only to the issue at hand, but tailor-made to the needs of the questioner. When it came to the exposition of Shaivite Hinduism, no one had a more laserlike intellect and understanding than Anandamayi Ma.

If you desire a solid collection her deepest teachings, this book might not be for you. However, the mind is like water, and takes the form of whatever container you pour it into, so Ma's image is very powerful, and is a worthy contemplation. I cannot get enough of her in any form, and enjoy this book whenever I desire to see her physical form. Most people think the spoken or written word is most important, but her images effectively bring the mind to one pointedness also, so if you enjoy this book, then consider that there are so many images of her available in the world today because she wanted it that way. Every human being is designed differently on purpose. Enjoy her Presence in any way you can. She became a physical being as a gift for you. She will draw you to her feet (essence) any way that is suitable for you if you let her.

Jai Ma!
