I'm not one to go into a long analysis for a review, but I found this to be a very good book. The author covered a lot of topics/issues regarding polyamory and open-relationships based on her own personal experiences and that shared to her by others. The book is broken up into sections where she provides explanations on the lifestyle, covering cultural (sociological), religious, scientific, and some psychological perspectives. The Q&A portion was also great considering that most of what I wanted to understand regarding polyamory was being addressed (i.e. trust, desire, coming out, ego jealousy, equality, etc), despite my take on the books sub-area of open-relationships where polyfidelity also falls under the main term.

All in all, I'd recommend this book for anyone who's new to polyamory and want to build a foundation or for those living it and would like to add more literature to an already existing library.

I think this book is doing a great job at educating me about Polyamory but really I find that the concepts are not just limited to a poly lifestyle. These concepts help me to love myself and all the people in my life better. The chapters on independence and trust stand out in my mind because they contain ideas on how to treat others in general. In fact as I read these chapters I realized that they way I treat certain people in my life has very little to do with actual trust and independence, something I didn't realize until now. I think I have been practicing more of a "monkey see, monkey do" and I am so glad to have the awareness that this book has brought me. I recommend this book to ANYONE who would like a better understanding of polyamory. I could see this book being helpful for a friend or family member of a poly person who may be looking for a book that could explain the basics but also some reasons why their loved one may have chosen this lifestyle. Like me, you may find that the reasoning behind polyamory begins to make perfect sense.

The real value of this book is the international perspective on polyamory. The author tends to view poly from a couples perspective, as opposed to the individuals or (preferably) the group dynamic. Still, I found it refreshing to see something written from a woman's perspective, and the international flavor had an subtle but exotic flair to it. In the end, though, the author comes off sounding authoritarian in places, condescending in others.

I found the greatest use of this book in the questions Francoise asks in each chapter. These are great conversation and debate topics for poly support groups, and can move conversations in the direction of opening new dialog in a nonthreatening manner.

I was disappointed by this book.
My cat could have written deeper responses.
I learned nothing from this book.
I didn't realize when I bought it that it was written by a French writer, and therefore talked of polyamory from a different cultural perspective. I think that had an impact on how the book was written.
Save your time and energy, and read a really good poly book like Love Unlimited: the Joys and Challenges of Open Relationships. That books offers some concrete tools to use in managing relationships, and use interesting examples to illustrate the author's points.
