It puts all those spooky terms together so one can follow the economicese so often used in print and speech, I now understand the reasoning behind the decisions made by government and industry. That does not mean I agree but just that I understand.

As both a student and teacher of economics, I appreciate the author's ability to distill complex economic theory in such a way that even economic neophytes, young and old alike, can understand. Without reservation, I recommend this book as the best supplemental text on the market for any introductory econ course, either at the secondary or post-secondary level. The only thing that could improve this book in my estimation is the inclusion of graphs to illustrate the concepts, but the author would likely have sacraficed some of the books accessibility had he done so.

This might sound really strange, but this was actually a textbook for my entry-level Econ class. Actually, it was one of three textbooks.. and it was my least favorite. It was useful primarily for the extensive glossary in the back (which I could have looked up terms online for free). The simplistic design is attractive, but the problem is that I needed much more than a few words to define every term and concept. The material was easy to read, yet I kept having to go online to learn more about every single topic because the book was lacking in anything more than a cursory overview.

This book is very clearly written; he humanizes economics, the ideas are explained in everyday examples and language. He makes the topic exciting and comprehensible. Great book for an amateur interested in the topic.

This author was my AP Economics & Government teacher senior year 08-09, besides being the most entertaining teacher in 4 years of public high school, I actually learned the most from his class then any other I have ever taken. While economics is certainly one of the driest subjects known to mankind, Mr. Mayer actually made it, dare I say, FUN. His class was engaging and exciting and I looked forward to 7th period every day like a prospective reader should look forward to reading his book. And when I got to college, I literally knew everything my proffesor was going to say next. (helpful considering she was Chinese and I could barely understand her). Because of Mr. Mayer, I had all the answers in college macroeconomics, I was the one who answered all the questions my proffesor asked, and I was the one who got to help out all the cute, ditzy cheerleaders who just didn't get it. If you are going to be taking any basic macro class in college, studying for the AP or CLEP tests, or are just trying to get through your regular high school senior year. Buy this book, read it, and it WILL help you.
