5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had this when I was in school! July 30, 2011
By Jill
If you can only buy one book to help your high school or college student succeed, this is it. The author breaks everything down into digestible pieces of information and offers advice that is relevant and up to date. The writing style is conversational - not textbook-ish. Therefore, not only parents will love this book, but teens too.
I gave my 16 year old niece this book and she loves it - she sat on my bed reading it for almost an hour, sharing tips with me ("It says not to go to class hungry. Uh oh, I always do that") I think coming from her mom, she would have blown off the same advice. This example could be repeated in every chapter. The advice on being prepared, note taking, extra credit, tips for studying, and time management is invaluable. If the suggestions in the book are put into practice, it can literally the tipping point going from B's and C's to straight A's. And... kids will enjoy the process more.

2.0 out of 5 stars Skip.. A waste of time.... February 8, 2012
By Irene
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm usually not a fan of self help books but I have seen good ones and this is not one of them..... The tips in this book should be common knowledge and this is targeted at a high school audience. The author doesn't make this book personalize or funny and just states her tips and suggestions. Its a boring read and in my opinion, a waste of time. If you want something similar try "How to Win in College" or books in that series. The author there made the content more personalized and laced it with humor all the way through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything Guide: Highly Recommended August 25, 2011
By Milo
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
A terrific guide, essentially a semester long study skills course presented in one coherent package. I especially like the author's introductory note that "success is being the best student you in particular can be," even or especially if that means a B. I see students at all levels benefiting from the book. The author, clearly passionate about her subject matter, provides strategic advice about how to create productive relationships with teachers, manage time, read a text and take notes, test preparation and test taking skills, writing essays from start to finish (including research), and advice about clubs and volunteering and on-line learning. I found this to be a smart, all in one book that will improve students' abilities and performance. Having taught and advised for a lot of years, I highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars GarySanFran December 6, 2011
By Lynn
My daughter is a good student, half AP classes and half regular. We purchased this book and began to get almost immediate results reflected in both grades and comprehension. I felt compelled to give credit where it I am taking a couple of minutes to offer this review. If you have a son or daughter trying to improve their study abilities/habits, this book will meet your every expectation. It is accessible to teens and adults....very smart and make sense approach to a critical issue in many accepted!. It is extremely challenging to get accepted into the better Universities as applications are at record levels. The contents of this book will put a motivated student on the right path and likely maximize their prospects for the next level of education. A one hour math tutor is $75.....this will be the best $15 I ever spent!

5.0 out of 5 stars An ultimate guide to success! October 9, 2011
Ms. Muchnick has created an exceptional guide for students. Her clear text, bold headlines and logical Table of Contents make this book accessible to both the strong and the weaker students. Ms. Muchnick's asides and examples are tone perfect to induce her readers into savvy and practical behaviors. This is a perfect tool for boys who want no frills, but rather a clear cut set of directions for success.
