5.0 out of 5 stars Learning Made Fun July 29, 2007
In preparation for our trip to the US, I got civic on my kids. I suddenly felt the impulse to share them all fifty states and teach them exactly whose faces show up on Mount Rushmore.

Mount, what?

Yeah, we have a lot of work to do.

Brian Thornton has done every expat American mom a favor by actually making learning such things fun. In The Everything Kids' States Book, we've learned the oddest trivia (the majority of limestone used in US buildings stems from southern Indiana) with at-a-glance descriptions of Everything you've ever wanted to know and then some. The friendly format, puzzles, quizzes and colorful pages are a must-have for every kid who might not know how great America truly is!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun Facts great for all ages June 19, 2008
By J. Send
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I bought this and the Presidents book for my son's 9th birthday, he loves fun facts so this was perfect to go with his wall maps we also bought him. Each night we would pick a state or two and read about it. It's always fun to see what someone else thinks is fun about your own state too.

nice layout, could have used better quality paper and more color print, but all in all a good series of books, great for older kids.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not interesting for younger kids October 11, 2014
By Nikki
The layout is annoying when trying to find a particular state, since they are grouped regionally but otherwise in no particular order. Also, it would have made sense to show a picture of the shape of each state as they are mentioned. The heading for every state is the name of the state printed over a silhouette of the continental US instead of that individual state. You have to look at the map in the back to see what the shape of the state is and it's position within the US. Very boring to read if you don't enjoy history - the majority of the information about each state is historical information, and my 5 year old couldn't care less. She likes to know what it LOOKS like in these states and what there is to do there, etc. There were no pictures of each state showing the scenery, landscape, major landmarks, ANYTHING, which was disappointing. Maybe good for older kids who like facts such as capital, state bird, state flower, etc but this is not a good book for a child who is just starting to learn about the US.

5.0 out of 5 stars States Info February 23, 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I haven't had a lot of exposure to the book, but my grandson who it was bought for and enjoyed skimming the pages and looking at the pictures, graphs and charts. He is only 5 so I think he will gain more from it as he grows than now.

not clear on the age this is appropriate for. I bought it for my 4 year old interested in states, and it way way too advanced. Still a good book, but for an older child.
