Fantastic!! May 6, 2007
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a wonderful book full of great information.

The author begins by giving instruction on basic dog behavior and how to work WITH the dog to train them. Then she teaches you how to train the dog to have basic "good manners".

The next section is on teaching many different kinds of tricks - from easy "kindergarten tricks" to retrieving tricks to advanced tricks to "go put this in the trash!" and everything in between. She gives very clear step by step instructions on how to train the dog to do each of these tricks.

The last 60-70% of the book deals with behavior problems and how to correct them. While this section is lacking in many other "how to train your dog" books, it is actually the most important information contained in the whole volume. Unless an owner can teach their dog not to engage in destructive or aggressive behaviors, it isn't going to matter whether the dog can sit on command or not - the owner is still going to be unhappy. She includes a wealth of tips and ideas for helping with all the common behavior problems.

This lady really knows her dogs. In addition, her writing style is engaging and easy to read - very enjoyable. I've read a ton of dog training books and I think this one is by far the best and most practical. You won't regret buying this book!

Great Book!!! January 1, 2004
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I got this book for my new dog and it is wonderful. I have never heard of clicker training before and this book explained it wonderfully. I got a clicker and my dog is loving the training(so am I) (we are doing kindergarten tricks)and she has learned a lot. I have already looked at the advanced tricks and can't wait to get there. The author puts everything in an easy format so it is easy to learn and fun for all ages with their dogs. The tricks are workable(at least they are for me and my dog)with the methods explained and of course fun is stressed throughout the book and it is fun.

Great tricks made easy! October 8, 2003
Format:Paperback
I bought this book to train my Mini Schnauzer and I have found it very helpful! The tricks are fun, showy, and easy for your dog to learn. After each trick instruction, there is a tip that tells you what to do when the trick isn't working- I really like that part!

I can't say my dog can do tons of tricks- I haven't had the book or my dog long enough, but she's already learned a handful of cute tricks and obedience.

I do recommend this book for anyone who wants to teach tricks to their dog.

Get a clicker and you are all set.
Lots of good ideas. The clicker speeds learning in half the time. I got this for the energized Border-Collie Mix. Now even our very careful and sedate dog is learning quickly

Good, but nothing Google can't tell you
This book has good info, I bought it when I first got my dog, but it won't tell you anything you can't find out for free through Google.

I wouldn't buy this again.

Dog Training
This book was just ok. very boring. Uses clicker training throughout the entire book. Does not give any alternative methods. Not the best book.
