Marian Edwards Ash was born in Portsmouth, Virginia. She is the youngest of nine children born over a twenty-three-year span from 1927 through 1950. Her father was born in 1897 and her mother in 1906. Growing up in the 1950s and 1960s her poems are influenced by events, such as segregation, civil rights, and conversations shared with her parents. Her poems are expressions of her spiritual beliefs. Her parents encouraged her to read the bible and the classics and to write her thoughts on paper. She enjoys writing poems and short stories. She has written poems for friends and family for a variety of occasions. Her poems are read at community events. The Expressions of My Mind and the Integrity of My Soul (TO GOD GIVE THE PRAISE AND GLORY) is her first published book.
