The thing I enjoyed most about this book was that it was part of a large collection of old books my grandfather gave me, and since his books are always well taken care of, it should fetch a few buck at HPBs. Anyway, this thing starts out with Willie trying (poorly) to rip off Kurt Vonnegut's style and makes such a botch job of it that he quickly just started cramming entire pages worth of song lyrics and photos into the thing. If somebody were willing to pay me to write a book and I did such a half-a** job, I would have begged the publisher to pull the thing from the shelves, made massive appeals to my fan base for forgiveness and gone into hiding. This book flat out stinks. There are only about 40 pages worth of actual reading, but the font and spacing are so large that 25-30 pages of actual material would be a better estimate.

I am 33 years old and a true Willie Nelson fan (but not a country music fan per se) I love Willie's activism almost as much as I love his voice. He is a true original. This book was, above all, a chance to get inside Willie's head for a while--and I enjoyed that. And while I will disagree with the reviewer who called him "a genius," I still think the book was worth reading. Most of the jokes were funny, the lyrics are moving, and once in a while, Willie really hits his stride (the section about Farm Aid was fantastic) The book is worth looking at if only for the photographs of Willie and his family and friends. I love Willie, and chances are if you're even thinking of buying this book you do too. It's not great literature, but it's entertaining most of the time. Go ahead and buy it, what the heck?

having been a willis fan for many past eons (at least it seems that long) it is a pleasure reading this witty, humorous, and completely delightful side of an all american hero/icon. He is great on stage, but he is there to play music - thank god - not to be a humorist. He does both well... bettter than well. It is a grand read for anyone, even tho you're not a country music fan. However, I cannot imagine such a person. Having worked in country radio for many years, i cannot imagine a world without willie! I highly RECCOMEND this slim missive!! Willie Nelson is a great singer. Now for the book: Most of the book consists of his song lyrics. That's the best part. As to the jokes, a few of them made me chuckle. The "keep breathing" and "long liver" lines on page 22 are ancient. Willie admits to being 68. As to the slang language, those same old "s" words and "f" words and a few others might be OK for emphasis, and if you like repetition, there's a bit of that.

This is an easy summer read that offers some unique insights into the mind of the legendary Willie Nelson. It has a lot of song lyrics, a few jokes and lots of personal anecdotes from his life on the road. It's not great literature, but it's fun and, what the heck, Willie needs the money!

This is a great read. It is his musings, some song lyrics, & some good jokes.

I don't usually read these sorts of books, as I prefer a "story". But I am heartily glad I picked this up. Young, old, male, female, blue-collar, white-collar--I've shared this book with more than a dozen people and every single person enjoyed the book.

It is a light read, of course, and contains lots of funny stories, jokes and some insightful words of wisdom or poetry. I would recommend it.

I purchased Willie's new book, "Roll me up and Smoke me when I die" and really enjoyed it. It was funny and gave me new insight and respect for Willie. So I decided to order this one but was disappointed. The jokes were not funny, it lacked much personal insight into the man himself and it contained page after page of song lyrics. I really did not want to read the lyrics and skipped over many of those pages. Not as good as his current book.
