About the Author

ANN NICHOLS (aka Melanie Panagiotopoulos), her husband, and two children reside in the venerable city of Athens, Greece, where she has spent many winter days pouring over dusty tomes in its old libraries and exploring little-known, historic sites where early Christians once lived and died for their faith. Her adventures have clarified her research and given her writing power and authenticity.

Words from the first reflection "Expectation and Anticipation" certainly gave words to my excitement as I picked up my Kindle to begin this journey. It is a real treasure and one that a family can use to journey through Advent to Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars getting closer to St Nicholas October 20, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Ann Nichols' Advent book will not only help prepare its readers for Christmas but bring them closer to one of the great saints of Christian history, Saint Nicholas. Few saints have been the object of such universal affection. He is seen as a brave defender of Christian teaching, a model pastor, a protector of the poor and defenseless, and a guardian of children. He is the patron saint of seafarers, prisoners and orphans. Probably no other saint has been so often represented in icons except the Mother of Jesus. An astonishing number of churches are named in his honor.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun Christmassy read! September 10, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
A really fun and entertaining book, not to mention highly informative. I caught myself thinking "I did not know that" quite a few times -- always a plus!
Honestly, I was enjoying reading this devotional so much that I didn't adhere to the one-chapter-per-day rule! I highly recommend it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars An extraordinary book! January 28, 2013
By M.D.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Ann Nichols' treatment of the history of St. Nicholas and how his legend transitioned into our modern American Santa Claus was excellent. I have always dealt with St. Nicholas/Santa Claus as an example of the gifts that were given at Jesus' birth, and the gifts we give our children and loved ones at Christmas are a manifestation of the love Jesus commanded us to show.

Having the historical facts presented in this devotional for use at Advent was lovely. We read it at meals as we lit the candles and prayed. It was a good way to get my grandchildren to connect the observance of the Holy Day with the holiday.

4.0 out of 5 stars Saint Nick Come Alive January 26, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I liked reading this day by day as I got to understand more of who Saint Nick really was. I like that the author just didn't tell me facts about Saint Nick, but wrote creative historically based stories that held my interest. I'm glad I was able to put the religion back into the Santa Claus that permeates our society at Christmas.

Excellent way to do something special for Advent. The daily readings were inspiring. The real St. Nick is so much better than Santa.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Advent Book
I liked reading this book and learning more about St. Nick. It was a great advent book, and that's what I used it for. It is not a novel, if that is what you are looking for.

More About the Author

Concerning THE FAITH OF ST NICK: AN ADVENT DEVOTIONAL: To learn how people lived before our times - and how they impacted our lives - is one of my favorite things. That and super dark chocolate; dogs and cats of all shapes, sizes and colors; and a good novel on a cold winter's night. When my editor at Barbour Publishing asked me to put my extensive research about St. Nicholas' life and times into a devotional form about his faith, "The Faith of St. Nick: An Advent Devotional" was "born."

I must admit that researching St. Nicholas' life has been life changing. When I took a break - what I thought would be a short break! - from writing novels I had no idea that I was actually embarking upon a major event in my life. Before these nearly two decades of research into the life and times of St. Nicholas (and that includes many others who lived during his times) there was a side of me that was wary of early Christian saints and particularly of those who lived during the 3rd, 4th and 5th centuries. I've since learned the debt of gratitude, thanksgiving and trust we owe them. Their witness is powerful!

I hope THE FAITH OF ST NICK:AN ADVENT DEVOTIONAL brings you joy - throughout the year!

Concerning my two Inspirational Romance Trilogies:

The "Of Love" Trilogy:
- ODYSSEY OF LOVE, FORTRESS OF LOVE, RACE OF LOVE

The "Fairy-tale" Trilogy
- HAPPILY EVER AFTER, A FAIRY-TALE ROMANCE, IN A LAND FAR FAR AWAY

These two trilogy's were both a labor of love for me and also a bit autobiographical - they play homage to the theme of "Love at First Sight" which seems to be a family tradition! Not only did my Grandparents experienced "Love at First Sight", but my parents did, I did, and now my son has! So forgive me if my characters meet one week and decide to marry the next! It really does happen in real life and with marriages that last lifetimes! These stories all have something to do with the country of Greece too. I've lived in Greece for a couple of decades (Yes, my husband is Greek)so have grown to know and respect the land and all it has to offer, both its strengths and weaknesses. The Greece you read about in these books is the real deal! But I don't neglect the land where I was born and bred! All except for HAPPILY EVER AFTER take place in the USA too.

I hope you enjoy these new kindle format! I for one love reading these books on my kindle!
