Book Description

September 21, 2010
She stepped onto the world stage as the Republican vice-presidential nominee in the election of 2008. Previously, she had only been a small-town mayor and the governor of a state with slightly more than half a million people. Still, there was something about her. She was pretty, fierce in her conservatism and she seemed undaunted by the slings and arrows of national politics. And there was something else, as well: there was a moral force that seemed to shape her life. As the world grew to know Sarah Palin throughout the 2008 campaign and in her subsequent public appearances and book, people began to see the force behind her: a deep, lifelong Christian faith. This faith was the lens through which she viewed the world, the bedrock of her politics, and even a primary influence upon her personality.

To understand Sarah Palin, it is essential to understand her faith. What faith principles, then, impact Sarah Palin's politics, and what are their implications for the Republican Party and the nation as a whole? These questions and more are answered in the fascinating new book by New York Times bestselling author Stephen Mansfield and his co-author David Holland. These authors were given extensive access to Palin's pastors, advisors, friends and family and it has allowed them to capture the moving story of Palin's faith, as well as the meaning of that faith for American politics and culture.

2.0 out of 5 stars Starts out well, but gets embarrassing by Chap. 8 February 1, 2011
Format:Hardcover
I've spent quite a bit of time in Wasilla and the surrounding Mat-Su Valley since 2005, and watched Sarah's rise through that time. She came across as principled, tough, and not bound by party labels, throwing out corruption in the State House regardless of which side it came from. The book captures that well early on, and tries to examine its roots from her history. Knowing the environment and culture up there, it rings true.

Midway through the book, however, the authors begin their gush-fest over Sarah as some sort of modern-day Winston Churchill/Ronald Reagan, and go on conservative diatribes for long stretches. I should have known early on in the book when they were slipping in the stealth epithet adjective "democrat" instead of the more proper "democratic" that something was up.

Unfortunately, I think Sarah herself has fallen into the culture of this group given her recent public persona. The "old" Sarah was tough and principled. I think if she had stuck to that and carried out her term as governor, she would have gone far and deserved it. It's sad it didn't turn out that way.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Faith and Values of Sarah Palin February 24, 2012
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
After living in Alaska for 12 years I was understandably curious about Sarah Palin. As I listened to her speech during the presidential campaign years ago I was so encouraged and charged up. As it turned out she has somewhat faded into the background but her charisma still lingers. I enjoyed her book and found her to be exactly what I expected. In Alaska most people are down to earth and "what you see is what you get" kind of peole. I hope we can get more politicians like Sarah Palin who stood up to the attacks from the opposition and who is not afraid to defend the Christian foundation of America. America is still a Christian nation!

5.0 out of 5 stars Sarah Palin from a different slant… March 6, 2013
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
In this 256 pages-book, authors Stephen Mansfield, and David A. Holland, take it as their mission to taken o, unabridged, The Faith and Values of Sarah Palin. Contrary to Geoffrey Dunn, relentlessly exposing lies and corruption and Sarah's alleged unrelenting quest for power, in this book we hear of marriage, motherhood, family values, church involvement, Christian values and commitment. In essence, two different of Sarah Palin's personality and character. Not having had first-hand knowledge of Ms. Palin, it is difficult to decide for myself, who is right, and who is wrong. And i don't believe in second-hand guilt by book review, with no chance for face-to-face interaction. Thus my final assessment will have to wait until that can happen.
