Book Description

Seth Jacobs has it all -- a successful business, a mansion in greater Boston, a beautiful wife and three loving children. Yet, in a series of events beyond his control Seth loses everything, including his health. Struggling to find some understanding amidst his pain, Seth’s faith is challenged further by his wife Maria, who betrays him, and even his friends, who suggest that perhaps God has His reasons for inflicting so much suffering upon him.
At the end of his rope, Seth meets Lucille O’Hanlon, a young yet wise social worker who tries to help him realize the spiritual solution he so desperately seeks. Lucille also begins to fill the void left by Seth’s losses, and as they grow closer together, he must finally determine if their relationship is of God’s Will or just his own.

Seth questions God as we all do in times of hardship. With Lucille’s help, he finally receives an unexpected answer to his despair and is faced with decisions that will determine the new path his life takes. A modern-day story based on the Book of Job, The Faithful One inspires us all to have a little faith no matter what.

What Readers Are Saying:
"The author gives us a front-row seat to watch one of the country's most successful businessmen and his family descend into the abyss of despair at warp-speed. The catastrophic events come fast and often and it is impossible to put the book down. The book provides a credible, but difficult, understanding of the sanctity of one's marriage vows and faith in GOD."
- Dennis Hildebrandt

"I met you on Sunday at the Baltimore Book Festival. I stayed up late on Monday night to finish reading the book and am happy to report that I really enjoyed it. (It even made me cry a couple of times!) I liked The Faithful One better than The Shack since you stayed true to the Book of Job - it made me want to go back and read Job again. It was thought-provoking and inspiring, and I will recommend it to the women in my book group at church. I'll certainly be looking forward to your next book!"
- Suzanne Steiner

"I bought your book there when you were signing them. I read the book and was very much impressed. The Book of Job has always been a good read for me and you put it in a modern setting in The Faithful One. I am recommending it for our church library and to the church book club for reading and review. Keep writing and may God Bless you."
- Skip Albert

"I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Faithful One. It is quite a page turner and an easy read. The book guided me to examine my own life after finishing it. When I reached the final page I was sad the reading experience was over, but I knew the story and its message would stick with me for some time. I have recommended reading this book to all my friends and family. It has been chosen by our book club to be the next selection of the month."
-Roberta J. Karns

I know this is a retake on the book of Job but the author does so in a very good way. It begins a bit does one man have so much and you just know something is going to happen. Then, it does. That is when you realize you are being sucked into the modern day retelling of Job. It is hard to follow that act and at first, I was reluctant but I let myself just read the story as is and I was amazed at what the author present. For one man to go through so much, I had no idea how he could ever get everything back. Just as in the Bible however, the reader is taught to remember that money is not everything and that sometimes, being average means you are the wealthiest person around. Its a hard lesson to remember and one we need to relearn. This book helped me remember the Bible story and I am so glad for that!
Despite some flows issues, it took my breath away. It had me laughing, crying and worrying for everyone (but the wife really!) in this book. That is hard to do. I am so glad I read this book and I will be sure to pass it along. It has such a great lesson and such a great story that it deserves a 5 star rating for sure1

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Read! January 13, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Great way to retell the story of Job! Kept my attention; in fact it was hard to put the book down until finished. There were a few times while reading that I felt it dragged just a bit, but not enough to distract from the story. This is the reason I gave the book 4 stars instead of 5.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Faithful One- HIGHLY recommend! November 10, 2012
By Kim H
I am sure we have all asked ourselves one time or another - what did I (or they) do to deserve this? Or maybe we know someone who lost a loved one to cancer or another horrible disease? How do we keep the faith and keep believing in God? This story is a good example - how to be strong even when things can't get any worse! It's about trusting God again. I am not a very fast reader but I read this one pretty fast - it kept my attention and I didn't want to put it down! Can't wait to read her next novel!!

Awesome read. Great writing about strong faith, unconditional love of a father for his children. "God speaks to us in so many ways, if only we look and listen."

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on the book of Job June 28, 2013
By Rw
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Well written but the action is sketchy at times. Characters are not developed as fully as might be hoped. The substitution of the sin of pride for Job's true faithfulness is disconcerting initially. The ending seemed contrived and rushed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerful April 8, 2013

I started this book and could not stop reading until I finished it the same day. I now am starting to read the book of Job in my Bible. My only complaint is that it seemed to drag in parts.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern Day Book of Job October 18, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a modern day book of Job. I had such a hard time reading it at the beginning, not because the of the way the author wrote (which is superb), but because of the heartache that befell the characters. The Author sucked you in from the very beginning where you felt as if you were there experiencing all the was going on with each person. It was heart wrenching, lonely and so painful. It was a beautiful story and I truly hated seeing it come to an end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Retelling of Job July 20, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The Faithful One is a modern retelling of the book of Job. Written mostly in narrative seemingly from an omniscient point of view, the style initially bothered me. But the characters are well developed and ring true. Job's trials make a dramatic tale filled with lessons and nuggets to stimulate thought in the middle of the night. Although I knew what would happen because I already know the story, I found myself filled with tears and cheering at the triumphant conclusion.

MIchele Chynoweth has done a wonderful job with this debut novel. Watch for her to sour with the literary stars in the future. I recommend The Faithful One. It is relevant and insightful.

More About the Author

I am the author of two novels, "The Faithful One" and "The Peace Maker," both modern-day Bible stories based, respectively, on the Book of Job and the story of David and Abigail in the First Book of Samuel. My calling is to bring Old Testament stories to life for today's readers with contemporary characters and plots so they can better understand and relate to God's messages of faith and hope. Both are part of Ellechor Publishing House's "Reimagines" line. Look for both on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, or visit my website to get a signed copy: I love to read all fiction - especially drama with some romance - and write what I like to read - novels that are entertaining, moving and inspiring!
