But with Alex seeming to hate her and secrets popping up everywhere, Gemma’s life is turning into a chaotic mess. Things that shouldn’t be real suddenly seem to exist. And as her world falls apart, figuring out the secrets of her past becomes a matter of life and death.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome read! September 6, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had heard quite a bit about The Fallen Star Series by Jessica Sorensen in the past few months. I decided it was definitely one that I needed to check out. The story line seemed wonderful, and the cover of the book is just gorgeous and really pulled me in. I just had to know more about the girl with the violet eyes! There will also be a movie coming out in the future!

The Fallen Star Series begins by telling us about Gemma Lucas, a high school student that has a bizarre life to say the least. She lives a very lonely life, not having any friends and being raised by her grandparents Sophia and Marco because her parents died when she was little. Gemma grew up not receiving any love from her grandparents. They acted like they wanted nothing to do with her. The strangest thing of all though is that for most of her existence, Gemma was uncapable of feeling any emotion whatsoever. Once she begins to feel, it is almost too much to handle. It begins with a strange prickle in the back of her neck and then she is absolutely overcome with an emotion. She has also been having horrible nightmares and it seems that the monsters from her nightmares are showing up in real life. Shortly after this starts happening, she meets some new students at school, Alex and Aislin Avery. She doesn't think much of it since no one talks to her at school anyway, but when they are forced to sit with her in astronomy class she is left with no choice other than actually talking to them.

Now not only is Gemma dealing with the sudden capability of emotions, but also this strange electric current she feels when Alex is around. She will soon learn that she can't just ignore it and she will learn many unexpected things about her past and where she came from.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!! August 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I saw this book about a week ago and was hooked from the first page. This story is about a girl named Gemma, who seems like an ordinary girl expect for one thing. She doesn't feel any emotions. That is until one day when she felt this prickle on her body. She then starts to feel new emotions. She tries to tell Marco and Sophia, her grandparents, but something seems off with them so she keeps quiet. Soon after the feelings started happening two new students enrolled in her school. Aislin is nice enough, always kind to Gemma. Unlike her brother Alex. Alex who seems to hate her for no reason at all. Alex, the boy who she feels this strong electricity with. As the story goes on Gemma learns that myths and legends, might be real after all. And she slowly finds out who she is, and her importance to the world. This book was fantastic and readers will love this book. It has romance, suspense, and action all in one. I recommend this book to everyone who enjoys a great book.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing October 29, 2012
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I was excited for finding a new author when I heard about Jessica Sorensen. The first book I bought was Ember and I thoroughly enjoyed every single part of the book. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. This was the second book I bought but I read it after I read The Secret of Ella & Micha. I was BLOWN AWAY by the story of Ella & Micha. How real they were and the fact the story had nothing to do with paranormal anything (which I prefer) and I still found it hard to put down. Now, with this being said I was amazingly disappointed with The Fallen Star.

The writing was good, though there were mistakes throughout the book. The main characters fell flat for me. I couldn't connect with Gemma at all. (Though there is somewhat of a reason for this I think you should still make the main character likable.)

I liked the idea of the story. That was really about it. The idea and not the way it was carried out.

Gemma is a young girl in high school who just doesn't fit in. She lives with her grandparents Marco and Sophia who took over when her parents died in a car crash. One day at school TWO new students come walking in and of course one of them is the very hot Alex. Gemma starts feeling a buzzing sensation when she's around Alex so it's understandable that she feels some sort of attraction for him. Of course his good looks play a good part in it.

Everyone is mean to Gemma except for Aislin who is 'Alex's sister'. Alex is hateful and Marco and Sophia are hateful. It isn't until Gemma catches a strange conversation taking place between Aislin and Alex and between Alex and Sophia that she starts snooping to find out what is going on and she finds nothing absolutely significant except for a paper full of dates with one date being familiar.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very bad, and here's why: November 29, 2012
By Cynthia
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I need to put it out there that I did give this book a chance, and all that I have to say is that I'm glad it was free. I feel bad giving it such a terrible review, but the book was equally terrible.
The writing was juvenile, the main character is not at all realistic or likable, and overall the story line was weak. If I were a twelve year old girl who has never read, i might really love this book. Sadly, I am a grown woman and sadly this is not my first book to ever read. let's all be honest with each other, real people do not act the way the characters do in this book. The character's interactions with one another are comical, but that is only because of the ridiculousness of them.

Before I go too far, let me give just a few examples from the first few chapters:

The first thing that caught my attention was the amount of times the author said "prickle". In the book, the word is used to describe a sensation that the character kept feeling. Honest to God, the word is used ELEVEN times in the first three chapters. Seriously? Is there no other word for prickle? Is there is no other way to describe the sensation?

The next thing that caught my attention was some of the things the said. things like, "he flung his attention" what does that look like exactly? "I could barely breathe, in fact I couldn't breathe." Well which is it? The character can't be indecisive on something like breathing. "How many times could I be caught staring at him before he called me a stalker?" um...considering the definition of 'stalker'...I think you'll be OK LOOKING at him.

The worst one was this sentence:
"His bright green eyes reminded me of clovers and flourishing springtime leaves.

I think there are like 4-5 books in the series. These characters kept getting into more and more trouble. It was a sweeping love story with plenty of twists. Read more
