In the three years since Atmosphere's dropped a full length record on the world, they've been far from stagnant, staying at the top of their game in every respect. For the better part of two years, Atmosphere toured the globe in support of their critically acclaimed - and #5 Billboard Top 200 charting - album, When LIfe Gives You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold. And in their ... Read more in Amazon's Atmosphere Store

Editorial Reviews

The Family Sign involves and engages the listener like never before on Atmosphere's most personal and intimate album yet. It's an extensive journey through familial relationships both biological and those built on friendship and loyalty. Slug's signature voice weaves in and out of Ant's ASR-born production, Nate Collis' bluesy guitar riffs and the sound of Erick Anderson's unmistakable keys giving The Family Sign a fresh, unique edge without sacrificing Atmosphere's signature sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breath of Fresh Air April 16, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was introduced to Atmosphere by a friend of mine who let me borrow the Overcast! album, and since the first track of that album I instantly fell in love with the music. Slugs style overall just amazes me lyrically on so many levels, he is one of few artists now a days that people can truly relate to. There is never any gimmicks in his rhymes, he stays true to the art of MCing with his own innovative style, and you can tell how much of a passion he has for rhyming. Of course, Ant always comes with it on every album. You can tell how much they have progressed in each project since the Overcast album, and for the better not worse. I bought this album a couple days ago and i knew from the beginning it would be dope. Slug slows his style and flow up a little more than his usual cutting edge style on the beat but for this album it fits it perfectly. He flows rather slower so its easier to understand his deep lyrics, while still letting Ant do his thing in the background. I gave this album a 5/5 simply because even after over 10+ years of being in the underground scene, this group has yet to fall off a single bit in my opinion. The lyrics and overall production simply amazes me for being made in 2011. They've came hard on every single album with no disappointments and I am 100% satisfied in spending my hard earned dollar to support real hip-hop. This is not the type of music you would here on the radio and I am glad that its not. Until people realize that hip-hop lives in the underground, I am satisfied that real hip-hop heads will rep and enjoy this style of music to the fullest. REMEMBER! SUPPORT UNDERGROUND ARTISTS, BUY the album, it's worth every penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge Atmosphere fan! June 1, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
Admittedly, I downloaded the leaked version of this album, but once hearing it I absolutely HAD to purchase a hard copy!
Atmosphere has come a long way along their years, in this album they have two new members added to the usual combination of Slug and Ant. The two new members are a guitarist and a pianist. This album has an extremely different feel to it, a lot of mellow songs with soothing guitar lines and piano riffs. The only fast, harsh song is She's Enough, and maybe Bad Bad Daddy. In my opinion the best songs are The Last to Say, Something So, Your Name Here and If You Can Save Me Now. I'd highly recommend this album to any Rap fans, Indie fans, Soft Rock fans, and any combination of the previous. Hopefully you enjoy it as much as I have! =D

5.0 out of 5 stars Best from Atmosphere in Years July 30, 2011
Format:MP3 Music
As a fan of Slug & Ant for 10+ years, I can honestly say this is quickly becoming my favorite Atmosphere cd. There are two mediocre songs on here, "Big Bad Daddy," and "Millennium Dodo," while the remaining 12 songs are as close to perfect as any hip-hop gets. Even the two mediocre songs are much better than any rap that is played on the radio, but just not up to standard for Atmosphere. The production and the sound of the instrumentals are beautiful, especially on "My Key," "Something So," and "My Notes." Slug's lyrics are as evolved and introspective as ever. With each release, I'm stunned at the group's ability to mature and still captivate and satisfy their growing audience. The lyrics never sound stale, or their style outdated. Songs like "The Last To Say," "Became," "I Don't Need Brighter Days," "Your Name Here," and "IF You Can Save Me Now" are as good as any previous Atmosphere release. "Just for Show," and "She's Enough" have the eloquent angst of "Don't Ever .. Question That," and "F... You Lucy." If you've never heard Atmosphere, you should BUY THIS RECORD. If you're a fan of their other work, you should BUY THIS RECORD. These guys are legends in their prime, I recommend anyone reading this review scoop this up ASAP!

AND as an added feature, I should mention this is the most genius cd packaging I've EVER came across. Its set up like a picture frame. The front of the "case" works as the actual face of the frame. The cd sleeve can be folded different ways to show whichever picture you want to show, and then the back of the case pops out like the back legs of a frame, so you can stand the cd case like a picture frame. Very novel, VERY NEAT!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Family Sign May 13, 2011
Format:Audio CD
I'm not going to lie, at first I did not like this cd at all. I sampled it online and thought to myself "I'm not going to bother buying this." Fortunately, I changed my mind. Now I am very happy I did! After listening to it in depth, I will tell you that it is a very good cd. It is more personal and emotional than the usual Atmosphere. I get a different vibe from this cd than I had with previous albums. I especially love songs #2,3 & 4. They are my favorites. In the song, "Became", it is like Slug is telling a story. It was actually quite suspenseful to listen to. It made me wonder what was going to happen next, just like a movie. The descriptions that Slug gives paint a vivid picture in my mind. It is the same with the song, "If you can save me now." Some of the later songs are slower and a little different. The lyrics are amazing though.
I believe that Atmosphere is like an acquired is not like anything you have ever heard before...and you will either love it or hate it. I definitely recommend this cd, but give it a chance and really listen to it before deciding that you don't like it. I would have definitely been missing out if I went with my initial feelings.
