5.0 out of 5 stars Complex, catchy, beautiful., October 21, 2010
This review is from: The Farthest Reaches (Audio CD)
When I heard the first few seconds of this album, I immediately understood that this was going to be something special. This is without a doubt the best death metal album of 2010. Despite not getting enough attention yet, this album deserves belonging alongside Onset of Putrefaction, Akeldama, Trilateral Progression, Diminishing Between Words, A Celebration of Guilt or None So Vile in technical death metal classics. Monstrously sweeping guitar arpeggios, detailed and technical yet always catchy and accessible melodies, every single riff perfected into intelligent complexity, unexpected time signature changes and insane blastbeats, lightning fast yet memorable solos, a huge variety of song structures and an abundance of different musical inspirations, picturesquely beautiful lyrics, crystal clear production, simply everything, everything about this album is flawless and mind blowing. You won't find any fillers, lazy moments, tech death wankery here. Every song, every single shredding solo, every single blast - they are all interesting and well written musical art, not in-your-face technical show-off. Son of Aurelius' intentions are obvious for sure. If you are into bands like Necrophagist, The Faceless, Decrepit Birth or Arsis you must own this album. If you haven't listened to tech death yet then this can be a perfect introduction for you. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome CD! Technical progressive death metal at its best!, April 14, 2010

This review is from: The Farthest Reaches (Audio CD)
After hearing this album, Son of Aurelius has now got to be one of my favorite bands! Every song on this CD offers something different, crossing into different genres and styles beyond just typical technical death metal. If you like The Faceless, Arsis, The Black Dahlia Murder, Obscura, or Decrepit Birth, you will love this album.

It is truly amazing that these guys are so young for all the talent they have. I highly recommend ordering yourself a copy of the CD. (And I suggest maybe get it from the Good Fight Music website instead, since you can get a T-shirt with the CD for only a few more bucks.) You will not regret it. "The Farthest Reaches" is a must-have for everyone who likes technical progressive metal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good death metal, more about rome than pagan gods, December 7, 2010

This review is from: The Farthest Reaches (Audio CD)
I'm not too good at describing death metal. It's fast, it's hard. Some interesting lyrics, those that you can catch. First song, honoring Hannibal the General, is exellent. Can't say too much else for it except that if you're looking for some atypical death metal, it's here and it's worthwhile.
