Book Description

Up until three days before her eighteenth birthday, Farris Landry's life fit neatly into three categories: consuming, troublesome and downright tricky.

Consuming because of the unnatural passion (obsession) she had for writing 'stories'.

Troublesome for the mother who descended into the realm of the insane right before her eyes.

Tricky when she found herself on her own, forced to carve out an existence by the skin of her teeth.

Farris quickly discovers that consuming-troubling-tricky is nothing compared to the Chaos that ensues after a visit to her grandmother. Determined to go on with her life, Farris finds out the hard way that sometimes, Fate has other ideas. In the blink of an eye, her life gets turned upside down: a tornado rips through town, her loft catches fire, and an explosion decimates her workplace.

A stranger, Emerson Ferrera, inserts himself into the violence, becoming guardian and protector. Farris begins to suspect her grandmother's warning of impending death might more serious than she thought.

Tragedy and betrayal follow, throwing Farris into a tailspin. Will she be able to trust the stranger she's become close to, or will his deception tear them apart?

Find out if Farris' writing obsession is just a unique gift or a clue to a talent with a more supernatural twist in The Fate of Destiny, book #1 in the Fates series.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4 1/2 Stars Creative and Well Executed March 29, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Let me preface this review- I generally do not read YA novels unless I have a friend who arduously promotes a YA book- it took much convincing for me to read the Twilight series or Hunger Games. In hindsight I am grateful... but nevertheless I tend to stay away. So... flash-forward The Fate of Destiny showed up for me in the free section of Kindle. After reading what seemed to be a intriguing synopsis, I decided why not, while having reservations as it was uploading to my device.

Suffice it to say I was very impressed with this book. Farris is a loner who has been compelled since the age of 8 to write short stories about specific people she has never met to the point of distraction. Shortly before her 18th birthday bizarre events begin to occur. Farris has an unknown enemy that wishes to change the course of her destiny. Emerson (a Weaver of Chaos) arrives to town, sent by her unknown enemy, to create chaos in Farris's life. But Emerson starts to have doubts about the nature of his assignment and why Farris is the target. (You get this all in the first 4-5 chapters so no spoilers.)

The plot was creative and well executed with some really original elements. The idea of fate and chaos manipulating lives is an awesome concept that really made this plot standout from the usual vampires, werewolves, fairies and the like. I really appreciate that the characters were mature but in a believable way and likable. I found myself really caring about them. In conjunction I really appreciated the dialogue- it was also reasonably mature and believable with NO OMGs, bubblegum speak, or sequential eye-rolling (Immature dialogue in YA books is the number one reason why I don't read them- I can't stand that .)

Why the 1/2 star deduction? While I thought the book well executed there were definitely some plot elements that were inserted and then ignored. I am not sure that was intended and it will come into play later. It really did not detract from the story either but it was still a forethought in my mind.

This book was better than a lot of the adult contemporary paranormal stuff out there so I think it can be read by any age group. For me I was pleasantly surprised. I really want to know what happens to Farris and Emerson next. I will be reading the next one in the series and I hope that Farris and Emerson continue to be the focal point. I may even try another of this author's books that are not a part of this series. Good Job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chaotically Original May 21, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Read all in a cold rainy spring Sunday afternoon. Vividly imaginative with original ideas. Chaos and Destiny as "human" entities fighting for a balance. An eternal warfare played on very tight rules to enable the preservation of the Universe. What will happen if Chaos decides that those rules are there to be broken? Great!

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting View of the Myth June 30, 2012
By Vals
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The plot revolves around the myth of the three fates, but by the point of view of the author this myth gains a new meaning.

Farris life is anything but easy. Her mother is institutionalized, her grandmother is senile, her house is no more and she has to work as a waitress, to be able to pay for a tinny apartment over a garage. It almost doesn't have space enough to stock all the stories she feels compelled to write since she was eight. Then, only days before her eighteen birthday, her life goes from bad to chaotic, literally. Some unknown powerful been wants her dead, and to achieve this goal, this enemy known as Fate of Chaos will not measure efforts. Using strange men with the ability to control the weather enter other things, she began her hunt sending a tornado to annihilate Farris. From then on, Farris life begins to seem like hell. All kind of things may occur near her. Storms, fires, explosions, you name it. But is not an easy thing to change ones destiny, and with the help of her friend Beelah, and the enigmatic Emerson and his friend Theron, Farris will face it all.

The book is good, but again I found myself disappointed with the lack of romance... Well, not totally, it is obvious that Emerson and Farris will have something in the future, but still I wish that there was something more between them in this book. But this is my opinion. I recommend and will be close watching this author, even if her other books didn't catch my attention till now.
