More About the Author

1975 was a really rough year. I was caught in the middle of a family melt down while in my third year of medical school. I was 22, and my father had died years earlier so I was paying my own way. Finally the stress caught up with me. I had what I called the "drop dead flu". Three months later, I was still exhausted, unable to sleep, achy all over and had no brain. Devastated I had to drop out of medical school. As I was paying my own way and relying on scholarships, student loans, and work (which I was now too sick to do) I found myself homeless and sleeping in parks. This was my introduction to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia.

Fortunately, I met a number of people who taught me what I needed to know to get well, and a year later I was back in medical school getting honors. Over the last 30 years, medicine has learned more and more about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome,Fibromyalgia, and chronic pain -despite most doctors still being clueless about these problems. Making effective treatment available for everyone with CFS, Fibromyalgia, and chronic pain has been my life's work. I have the honor of serving as Medical Director of the Annapolis Research Center for Effective CFS & Fibromyalgia Therapies,Senior author of the landmark study "Effective Treatment of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Fibromyalgia -- a Placebo-controlled Study" and Author of the best-selling book "From Fatigued to Fantastic!", " Three Steps to Happiness! Healing through Joy", and the recently released "Pain Free 1-2-3- A Proven Program to Get YOU Pain Free NOW!" I also am regularly in the media, including CNN, FOX National News, USA Today, etc so we can get the information out that people need. For more information on how you can get well now, I invite you to visit my web site at: www.Vitality101.com.
I know it's been difficult for you. The good news is that, having HAD these problems, I can tell you that it is possible to get well and get your life back-NOW!

I read his other longer book years ago and found it overwhelming. This is the perfect length and easy to understand. It is a more concise summary of the larger book, I would recommend this for people over the larger book.

I would look at the appendix for his top 10 favorite supplements. If you tried every supplement in the book you would be spending around $500 a month or so. So the top 10 is useful. The proboost though is ridiculously expensive. Instead I am using a mushroom based immune booster. And instead of the form of ribose he recommends I am using a form of bioenergy ribose sold on amazon(Dr's Best, or Swanson's uses this form). It is made in the US but more reasonably priced. Seems to work great just stay clear of the cheap Chinese garbage. If you are in a tight budget a good multiple, good B complex, d-ribose and a sleep supplement are likely the most important if you can't afford everything he recommends.

My husband purchased this for me because he's seen in the 17 years we've been together how tired I always am. I don't have the energy to do the things I want to and don't spend as much time with him or our son as I would like because I'm just so tired all the time! I also have struggled with weight issues since childhood and I am colder than everyone I've ever met. These are classic symptoms of underactive thyroid but I have seen countless doctors for this and they've all told me "nope, you're hormones are in the 'normal range', there's nothing wrong with you". This book explained why the "normal range" doesn't mean you're normal and also talked about many other reasons for my symptoms. I am going to have a consultation with Dr. Teitelbaum this week and hopefully get started on his protocol for treating fatigue, and for the first time I feel like a doctor might actually be able to help me!!!

I bought this book with marked skepticism, thinking it would be mainly a promotion of alternative medicine and naturopathic remedies. I found however that the theories and treatments are well thought out and do provide rational approaches to the chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia syndromes. Dr. Teitelbaum explains the causes and care of many of the symptoms associated with the condition, and suggests treatments, some of which may lack validity, but are quite interesting.
as a retired physician, I found myself wishing I had had access to this when I was in practice, although I realize that mainstream medicine would look askance at some of the conclusions especially regarding thyroid testing.and treatment. I recommend this book to anyone who has an interest and can read it with an open mind

I already had Dr. Teitelbaum's other book "Fatigued to Fantastic" so I knew his protocol. I've met Dr. Teitelbaum in person and I know he cares. This book simplifies his protocol making it easier and faster to get answers. I was reminded of the steps he recommends so helped me get my priorities back in order. Being reminded of my weakest link, "sleep" I began finding ways to get the sleep I need. This book is much easier read than the first one.

This is the second book I have read by Dr. Jacob Teitelbaum. I like this one because it's an easy read. It is put in layman's terms- making it easy to read. I have FM, CFS and Hashimotos and it has given me great insight, answers to why, and solutions to my illness. Am I cured of this illness-No. But it gives me a piece of mind knowing that one day I might be. It gives me Hope!

Dr. Teitelbaum is looking at fatigue in an old school manner. Ambien. Really? I understand people need short term help but I think you're not getting to the root enough of a combination following the advisement of Ambien, or other addictive drugs with potentially serious side effects.

I think fatigue is a really complex state of dis-ease, but I think he needs to address issues like adrenal fatigue in combination with infections (Candida, Parasite, and H Pylori - bacterial).

I think he needs to talk more about leaky gut and its contributions to fatigue.
Also, a combination of Metametrix organix acid dysbiosis testing, Doctor's Data Parasite testing, and BioHealth 401H will do a decent job of showing what could be wrong (speaking from experience) and contributing to fatigue and everyone suffering fatigue should run those tests to see what gut infections they have. We all have infections, but some of us are better able to live with them than others due to issues like age, exercise, immune system status, and of course diet and sufficient vitamins and Minerals (vitamin C, magnesium, Iodine, selenium, zinc, and iron are a few of the realy important ones and I disagree that you want to go supplementing them willy nilly, except for Vitamin C perhaps).

Those functional tests will go a long way towards helping a patient - this may change in 5 or 10 years, but then, Dr. Teitelbaum would be able to update them on his blog. Whatever you are looking for - if you are looking for an allopathic view - I guess this is good. But if you want a functional medicine view, I would advise this:
http://scdlifestyle.com/2013/03/are-unreliable-lab-tests-stealing-your-money/

And also getting baseline results (CBC, Cholesterol), TSH, and looking at perfecthealthdiet.com for information about what elevated cholesterol could mean, what a TSH of >1 would mean, etc. for an educational allopathic perspective
