Since josh scogin is pretty much the only original member of the Chariot, i would say this band got a new fresh beginning, per se. The Fiancee is a lot differnt but yet similar to Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing Nothing Is Dead and Nothing Is Bleeding. The difference, in my opinion, would be the musicianship itself. New musicians seem to bring in new techniques and composition. The tracks are a little bit more "mastered" rather then having the rigid "dirty" sound from their freshman counterpart. However, the similar aspect I see between this album and Everything... is that the writing that Josh did are pretty similar. However I think The Fiancee displays his vocals a lot better as if he was old Norma Jean.

Overall, this album is really good, so far my favorite tracks are They Drew Their Swords, Heard This Noise, and They Came to Kill. This album was highly anticipated since they haven't really released a full length since 2005.

At first listen, you will not be happy overall if you have listened to the Unsung EP. Eventually, you will realize how great of an album this is. This is a perfect hard album all the way through. Each song leads into the other and each has its own beauty.

Best Chariot release thus far.

the sound quality is higher, louder, and this definately is different than the previous release from the band. which i didn't care much for the album Everything is alive~ blah blah, long title for their last album, but anyway, the feedback seemed more or less accidental in that one, and was more annoying than actual useful. so i'm glad they changed how they did for The Fiancee, it finally seems like its further marking itself as unique, cuz aside from the excessive feedback on the previous release, i compared Everything is alive~ to early Norma jean's music.

but pointless blabber aside, this album is primary good due to high musicianship and a very intense vocal performance by Josh.
also, the heaviness is relaxed a few times on the album with some sort of audio sampling? i don't know, i remember hearing a harmonica at the end of either track 3 or 4 ^.-
then there's like some sort of church choir on the last track The Trumpet ^.-
very cute, makes it unique as an album, although a bit odd.

bottom line, if you liked Josh in Norma jean, and/or both while in The Chariot, either way, this is then an album you would want.

but to be specific, this does not sound like Bless the martyr, but Josh doesn't sound all that different ;p

I just read a review by Rick and I have to say Im outraged. Every single one of these songs had a building and a closing. I was never left unsatisfied. "The Trumpet" was not out of place, not only was it in the back ground of other songs, but they are also a Christian band. Every song is about God. So tell me that song is out of place. Its not like all other songs on the cd, but if every song was the same, why would I want to listen to it? This was a good following to their "Unsung" release. Not in comparison, but it still let me know why I love the Chariot.

Another huge mistake Rick made was calling them "noise." They are a hardcore Christian band. Plain and simple. Every song on their albums are related with God. If you don't want every song about God, then I suggest Norma Jean. Which used to be, Norma Jean and The Chariot one in the same. If you are going to review, realize that if you want noise then stick to your guns of knowing Sonic Youth and Hella. Otherwise, stay off.

Chaotic. Inspired. Dissonant. Spiritual. Heavy. Dopamine for the ears. All of these things describe "The Chariot" to a T with their latest release "The Fiancee." Keeping it real, unashamedly Christian and about as heavy and experimental as music gets, "The Chariot" outdoes themselves with the most artistically tasty and pleasing hardcore album I've heard since Underoath's latest offerings. If you like the more hardcore side of things (less metal, more dissonant techno/modern leanings) this is an album you will not only need to buy, but you will listen to until your ears bleed.

Highly recommended.
PS
This album is not only completely clean, it's flat reverent and worshipful. If you like Christian content in your music (no matter how brutal) this is a must listen.

I was so suprised when I stumbled upon "The Chariot" as the video for "They Drew Their Swords" was avaiable from Comcast Music Video on Demand. When I saw the video, I thought, what a different type of concept these guys are bringing to the table. Its almost like going back in time with the feel of Grundge, but 100x more Agressive. I didnt think I was going to like the album as much as I did, and I think that "The Chariot" should get props for doing something a bit diffrent in the music world. This isnt real complicated stuff, alot of distorted guitar, and agressive drumming (even hear a little bit of double bass thrown in)with some absolutly angry as hell vocals. I love it! Its like a combination of 90's Grunge, Metalcore, Garage Rock, and some elements of Death/Thrash Metal, all rolled up into one. Is it perfect, no, but its a helluva an effort, and even though its a bit on the short side, I think that you will like this album if you are a fan of any type of extreme music.
