5.0 out of 5 stars Glorious! March 12, 1999
By A Customer
I can't find enough epithets to praise this recording enough! It is the epitome of what an authentic early music performance should sound like. The tunes are mesmerizing, the musical accompaniment colorful - that alone would have made this CD a real find. But the solo voices added to this wonderful mix bring it to a level of unmatched singularity. These voices, a boyish mezzo-soprano and a high tenor, both utterly devoid of vibrato, sound like they are not of this world. This was recorded in 1990. Since then, Mark Padmore is everywhere, but I never again heard of Jennie Cassidy. Well, she is outstanding on this CD, whatever else she's doing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing music November 4, 2006
I am fascinated by the painting of the same title and while searching for a puzzle of it found this music cd. It is hauntingly beautiful and regal music from the Renaissance/Tudor age and listening to this one can well imagine the ostentatious display in the fields outside of Calais. I can almost hear the brightly colored tents flapping in the wind, and see the finely clad kings, and their courts. With a tent city of thousands best not to think on the smells, rather just let your eyes, ears and imagination travel back in time.
