The Fight for Maglev is an amazing journey through the genuis of invention and the policies of prevention that have kept America from harnessing this homegrown breakthrough technology and leading the world in 21st century transportation and energy storage. This provides the kind of grand challenge we need to mobilize, motivate and manufacture a renaissance in U.S. technology leadership. It provides a stunning expose on the inaction and incompetence of elected leaership in grasping the value of what Drs. Jim Powell and Gordon Danby have achieved. The book should be a must read in every college of engineering and public policy advanced degree program looking to the future. It should inspire young minds to carry on the discoveries of Powell and Danby. A wonderful book.

Let me first say that I am an unabashed fan of Maglev, and think it is a technology that we *have to* adopt here in the United States in order to stay competitive, and add to our quality of life now and in the future.

The fact that we have not yet adopted it, and other nations are beating us to, while the technology was invented in the 1960s, is a testament to our governmental ineptitude, the power of entrenched interests, and our enslavement to Wall Street.

I say all this to make clear that a strike against this book should not be seen as strike against Maglev. I know the authors have endured much in their fight to see Maglev implemented in their lifetime, and I'm sure their frustration at its delay is stronger than anyones. This technology, and the infrastructure to support it should *already* be underway in the United States. And the fact that it isn't is something we all should shake our heads at.

The problem with this book, and the reason I gave it three stars is that it is incredibly long-winded and repetitive!

The first few chapters breeze along nicely. Explaining the environmental concerns of if we do not end our dependence on fossil fuels, the Maglev America project, and the 2nd Generation Maglev technology. These chapters are all very interesting.

But the later half of the book bogs down significantly. The worst of all is James Jordan's Chapter 9: Third Round - Decision Time for America. This chapter goes on almost endlessly. Recounting trips to Washington, meetings with Senators in elaborate detail, etc. It alone nearly made me less sympathetic to the authors' cause and risked losing me. And I am deeply fascinating by the project and technology!

One of the author's goals is to generate buzz for the Maglev project.

This is the story of how a technology that would revolutionize our economy and raise our standard's of living has been suppressed. There have been other maglev systems built around the world, but clearly the technology Drs. Gordon Danby and James Powell have developed would be the most advanced--and realistic--technology that could be implemented here in the US relatively easily. This book has inspired me to be an advocate of the technology. Even though it hasn't happened yet, its not too late and I'm grateful to these inventors for documenting what it is they've created and why it hasn't yet come to fruition. Clearly, the fact that we don't have maglev today has nothing to do with its lack of feasibility or technological capability, but the entrenched interests that don't want to adopt change and a lack of knowledge on behalf of the public of what exists and what could be. I will not die a happy person if we haven't changed our systems of transportation beyond the antiquated technology we use today.

Those who profess to be leaders, be they in the 1% or 99% class, should recognize the message and suporting data in this book as a 'FINAL CALL' for America.

This is not another book about 'the need to do something' but a book about how the implementaqtion of existing advanced American Maglev technology can benefit all. Unlike a 'Road Map', it is a Blue Print for change on par with the introduction of the auto and airplane.

In short, this is a classic story of..."You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink". Business, political and educational leaders who continue to ignore the urgent message from inventors Dr.James Powell and Dr. Gordon Danby do a disservice to their country.
