Really nice book at a great price,I was watching this title on Ebay but did not like the price,so I went to Amazon and got it at a great price. It is a very readable book, about the armed guard on liberty ships. It gave me good insight on what is was like serving on a Liberty ship during WW2 as I had an uncle{2nd Officer} who was lost on a liberty ship, when it was sunk with all hands in 1943{SS Samuel Heintzleman}this book allowed me to see life at sea on a liberty.

Needed something of an education on Liberty Ships for which I ordered two books and this little book proved to be more than worth its price. If you ever find yourself needing to understand the role of Liberty Ships during WW2, this title is recommended. A quick one or two day read, it is not about the mass production of these ships but rather that of being aboard and in harms way. I enjoyed this author.

Hoeling mixes a general overview of wartime shipping, especially Liberty ships with his own experiences in the Atlantic and European theater. The book includes enough action and suspense to keep you interested, with general information and references to other ships and actions to encourage you to search the bibliography for more reading on the subject.
