Overall, I think the film was very well done. This film is a grim reminder of what we should not forget, and is fitting to show new generations of what happened in Nazi Germany during The Holocaust. The video opens with a train arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau,and I was hoping for a little more coverage of the this sight. However, The BBC has a six hour documentary on Aushwitz that is very detailed and covers just about every thing you would want to know about that camp. The focus of this fims is on "concentration camps", not "extermination camps". Exterminations camps were used for the sole purpose of extermination (Sobibor, Treblinka, etc.) and are not covered here. The Concentrations camps used what Himmler called extermination through work and tried to maximize slave labor production while minimizing resources for the prisoners. It is an eye-opening view just how horrible living conditions were like. The film covers Nazi Concentration Camps located in Germany and Austria. The before and after pictures are impressive. Do to the large number, it is impossible to cover all the camps in Germany, but the most notorious and well known camps are highlighted and their story told. The creation of the SS's brutal "Death Heads" units are also covered. I was surprised to see just how much of these camps and been destroyed and then later recreated. There seems to be a movement in Germany to memoralize these sights. The coverage of Anne Frank and her family was especially eye opening and moving. This film allows to you to travel to Europe and see what remains of The Third Reich. Hopefully this film will stimulate viewers to do more research into what really hppened.

If I hadn't owned this DVD, I would've never known that a member of the cast of "Hogans Heroes" spent time in a concentration camp. This DVD was great from a historical perspective. The details about Anne Frank's family and others really help to describe what the Jews of the time and other dissidents went through at the hands of Hitlers Henchmen (and women). The narroration and music really helped paint the picture of just how bad it was in Nazi Germany in the time leading up to and during WWII.
Even though I would say I am familiar with this period of time, "The Final Journey" opened my eyes to a history of the concentration camps that I had not been exposed to. The historical footage, combined with present day footage, creates a surreal picture of the suffering at the hands of Adolf Hitler.
This DVD would appeal to all levels of intrest in World War II and Nazi Germany.

This is a very good DVD. If you are interested in this time period, add this to your collection. Defines life in the concentration camps vs the death camps.

The primary benefit of this DVD is the footage of the main Nazi concentration camps as they exist today -- something that few of us with limited time and travel budgets could otherwise experience. The accompanying narration is detailed and accurate. My only criticism is that the narrator is somewhat drab and monotone. On balance, however, this DVD is very good and well worth the price.
