I've read virtually every book about the Lombardi era Packers. This is the first one that deals solely with what was Lombardi's best team..The Packers finished 13-1 and then repeated as NFL champions by beating the Giants in New York. There are great details of that game as well as of all the games that season. There are compelling interviews with Packer players and some of the people they played against as they all look back almost 50 years at how great that team was during a time football took over as the National Pastime. A must read for all Packer fans and for those who don't know enough about that team.

The author demonstrates a detailed knowledge of '62 Packers. Very insiteful review of Packer legends and their impact on the team. A must buy for all Packer fans throughout the US. I watched this team and the book brought back a lot of great memories for me.

Format: Paperback
The Lombardi era Green Bay Packers are to professional football writing as the New York Yankees are to baseball writing. There are more books written about these two teams than all of the other pro football and baseball teams combined. The idea of writing a book on Saint Vincent's greatest team was certainly worthwhile but the finished product is so repetitive and poorly written that it is hard to believe that Mr. Berghaus writes about sports for a living.

How many times did we need to read the list of the team's Hall of Fame players? Jim Taylor's season stats (1,474 yards, 19 touchdowns) must have been stated at least five times even though it seemed like a dozen. The '62 Packers scored 415 points and gave up only 148...yes, I got it the first time. Paul Hornung hurt his knee and Tom Moore filled in admirably...I know, I know. Paul Hornung, along with Detroit's Alex Karras, was suspended for the 1963 season for gambling...this was mentioned more than once even though the book was about the 1962 team. The repetition was unbearable but luckily the book only contains 159 pages of text.

There were also several errors like the reference to "John Brody of the 49'ers" on page 72. He spells Brodie correctly on page 121.

The best part of this little book was the game summary recaps at the end.

All in all, a very disappointing and weak effort considering the strength of the material that the subject potentially provides.

What a great book on the Packers best season under coach Vince Lombardi. It's fun reading what the players have to say as they look back 50 years recalling a season that was one of the most dominating in the history of the game. Love the chapter discussing a game between the 62 Packers and the 72 Dolphins.

I had heard and read so many stories about this Packer team in other volumes, it was great to see this volume out there. Bob Berghaus does a fine job recreating that season with recent anecdotes from several players. A fine addition to the library of any Packer Backer!
