I have kids who are out of college and who have had a couple of apartments so far and I wish I had had this book a fews years ago. I would have given it to both of them. I actually still plan to as the advice is number one - VERY easy to follow which is NOT the case for so many interior design books I have seen. Also, the stories about the people in the apartments are just great by themselves. SO far I have read The Art Lover and The Scholar and have loved both chapters. The ideas are great - I have GOT to get details on the chalkboard table and the mattress light fixture on page 231! I also think the photographs are terrific - very colorful, very bright - they really help sell the ideas! I would recommend this book for students, parents, grandparents - pretty much everyone!!

I am more than 30 years past my first apartment days but that doesn't mean I haven't found some inspiration for more modernized and affordable design and decorating tips. There are several craft ides within this book that can be used or modified towards a more personalized theme or look within your first apartment (or second or third). It doesn't matter if you're looking to rehab/redesign an apartment, a condo or a home there are some awesome ideas that will fit into your style. This book reminds me of the old retro magazine, Apartment Life. Remember: if you can't have the best of everything, make the best of everything that you have. This is a "keeper" book ... another 5 star review!

Ten small apartments in different cities across the country- and their young tenants, with big dreams, tight budgets, and strict landlords-
is good, interesting, smart, cozy decor realistic at all in these cases, and how to get it all done? That's what this book is about.
Amazing book, with lots of ideas and DIY projects-even two-left-handed person like yours truly, immediately wanted to implement some. I loved how author managed to understand both personality of an every dweller, and personality of a city every apartment is in, and reflect it in his designs.
More than this, it's very nicely composed and written, I loved the style.
Actually, I loved the book so much, I read it twice in a first couple of days after it has arrived.I am even writing this review now-that's how much I liked it.
Highly recommended.
I will be excitedly waiting from a new book by Kyle Shuneman..I hope this one is first, but definitely not last one.

This book is great! I love the decorating ideas and the beautiful pictures. I also really like that the book tells you the best places to buy the items that are featured in it. And the "how to" sections contain easy to follow steps for copying some of the decorating ideas. I can't wait to try the chalk board decal on my fridge. I never even knew that chalk board decals existed! What a fun idea!

I preordered The First Apartment Book to prepare for my move to NYC. I love how Kyle started from the beginning-- searching for the right apartment! After I found the best place using his tips, I really loved how he had step by step instructions with clear photos on how to add color and space with fabrics and mirrors, respectively. This book really helped me turn my crowded closet of a studio, into a fresh, organized, and comfortable place to live. I give the book a 10!

I think this book is awesome, it details step by step instructions on how to get amazing designs on a dime. The wonderful photos are just as beautiful as the designs. I've never seen photographs look this good in a design book. I loved the idea to reuse the old records as a headboard-Genius! Definitely check it out, it's worth every penny, and the tons of future pennies you'll save on these clever design ideas.
