I loved this book and want to continue to read the rest in the series. I couldn't put the book down, waiting to see what was going to happen to this young, brave boy that grows into a fine man. I want to follow the story as his life unfolds, but want to keep them in order. I would like to thank the author for an exciting adventure of the true west, and hope there will be a happy ending to Art, the Preacher's life.

This is a subject in history that I really enjoy. Those men in the late 1700 and early 1800 that traveled into the unknown to see the "Creature".
The author has a good grasp of the people in that time frame.

This story of young Art living and learning the ways of the evil men and the Indians and the men who settled the mountains. This is my third and I intend to read all of the Preacher stories.

Really enjoyed this book. After reading all the Preacher books and almost all the Mountain Man Series, I felt that the author was repeating many sections in some of the books. Not this one! It tells the story of Preacher when he started out. So it was all new material. It was hard to put down!

Easy read..a little far fetched,in some places but interesting, with non stop action throughout. I enjoyed reading this fictional account, about the olden days of Indians and outlaws, and of course the hero "Preacher, was his name",who led the pioneers through many hardships,in attempting to populate the Western, frontier. Kind of a nice change of pace after so many serial killers and detective stories, that I usually choose to read. I see some more Johnstone books in my future.

Interesting story, in the typical William W. Johnstone style, of how a boy becomes the Mountain Man Preacher. If you are into the Preacher series, this is a must read. Very good book. The first story, again, is typical William W. Johnstone style of Preacher leading a wagon train to "the promised land." Not as exciting as some of the other Johnstone stories, but nevertheless a very good story. Well worth the time reading.

The First Mountain Man: Far too much violence for my taste, however my husband liked it. The First Mountain Man: Preacher, about his leaving home was much better. It should have come first in the book.
