I have a child care in my home & I've tried a lot of gates. What I like about these is that you can mount them easily & they can come down easily. I love the fact that they expand so wide because I had a larger than average door opening & a specialty gate was over $100. The only down fall is the kids can pinch their fingers easily if you're opening the gate while they are touching it. I have 4 of these in my home.

I bought this gate 2 months ago and I'm not super happy with it. This gate would work great for a child that is just learning to crawl til about 1.5. I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old. The latch on this gate is very simple. My 2 year old figured out how to open the latch within 2 days. Within a week the metal latches were bent due to my kids rattling the gate making it harder to latch properly. Maybe my kids are just more destructive then most but I wouldn't recommend this gate for anyone with a toddler. However, this gate does contain my 1 year old well for now, though I have noticed him attempting to unlatch it and he gets quite close.

Basically you get what you pay for, if you want a gate to last til your child is 2+ I would definitely recommend paying more for a sturdy metal gate with a good latch. We have several metal gates for normal sized doors and there is no way my kids will develop the hand strength to open the latch til they are far beyond the years of needing to be gated in.

We love this gate. We use it to keep our dogs contained when we aren't home. Since it's expandable, we make it narrower to get it out of the way when we're home (it would hit furniture along the wall if it stayed the same length when swung open). We also love that we can re-use it for our next place, since it's easy to install and expands to so many different lengths.

Loved this product. Easy to use, hardest part is installing the hardware. I liked that it could open forward or back and could be kept out of the way. Because of the swinging the hardware needs to be tightened every once in a while. The gate expands to five feet so it fits most anywhere. The no-pinch security rail kept us from getting our fingers pinched and also kept our jumping animals (cats) from injury when going over it. I would recommend this to everyone that has a use for one.

We purchased three different kinds of baby gate for our home. I was amazed at how different a child's product can be, in terms of safety and effectiveness. This was the worst of the three. First: the catches on the sides are a bad design. If one or more of the latches doesn't catch, and a child leans on the gate, it could tip forward and launch the child down the stairs. Second: my capable, careful 3 year old son got his hand jammed in the collapsable fence and couldn't extract it. (We finally took it down after that). Third: it is almost impossible to use. One-handed, carrying a baby - unlatching both catches on one side results in a rickety and difficult to maneuver gate. We were stunned at how insufficient this product was. Of the three, we loved the North States Superyard 3 in 1 Metal Gate (Baby), and ended up buying it again, four times, over subsequent years, as our family grew and we needed to block other parts of the house.

This is my second purchase of this gate. It does match the pictures above, but it is different than last years model. There is no longer a protective white plastic cover on top. The locking mechanism had changed. Also last years model was symmetrical, so that you could open it from either the right or left side. This years model has a hinge, so that you need to choose at installation time which way you want the gate to open. I used last years gate with Stairway Gate Installation Kit (K12) by KidCo. This years comes with really long screws, so if you wanted to use the same stairway kit, then you would need to go to the hardware store. I'm just using the new gate to block the kids from crashing into the delicate banister rails.

This would be ideal for low traffic areas. As a high traffic gate, I would pass. Overall good quality and will probably last. The upper latch and lower gate catch are a little tricky to alight just right when closing it and opening it one handed is not a strong point of the design. A wood strip or wooden threshold should be used to achieve a secure install. Alternately you can use wall anchors of comparable strength to get a durable and secure mount - plan to purchase them as they are not included. Note that small 3/4" long eye hooks are used as the hardware for the hinge (swing) side and for the latch (open) side. A nice feature is that is collapses out of the way and swigns fully 90° for a large passage.

I specifically ordered this gate rather than a similar (cheaper) one from a different web site because I preferred the latch that was pictured on this one. When I received it, I found the latch was identical to the one I DIDN'T want! In any case, it seems to be working for now, however, I am concerned that my grandson, now 21 months old, will be able to figure out how to open this latch earlier than the one which had been pictured on the web site.
