I have a 3 year old son who ended up having to get 11 stitches on his penis because of how sharp this potty seat is. The inside seam, where the top & the bottom molds of the potty seat connect, has a very sharp strip. You'll see it/feel it if you have one.

Anyhow he jumped off cause he was excited that he had gone & then immediately began to scream. I guess his skin got ripped as it scraped against the sharp strip. We spent the day in the emergency room. No parent, yet alone a poor little boy should have to go through this.

THIS POTTY SEAT NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!

My son really likes this seat. The foam pads on the bottom keep it from slipping so it doesn't really move when he sits down. He also like holding on to the handles (I guess it's a security thing). The built in shield in the front isn't very tall, but we haven't had any problems with it. My son gets on and off easily which he might not be able to do with a bigger shield. The only reason I'm giving it 4 start instead of 5 is that's it's a little harder to clean than the one piece seats. You have to take it apart to clean between the two pieces. It's not difficult to do though. The two pieces just snap apart, you clean them, then you snap them back together. This is clearly explained in the instructions, so if you read them you won't have any problems with the odors the other reviewer complained about.

In regards to the reviewer whose son cut himself on the seat... I just carefully checked my son's seat and there are no sharp edges anywhere. We also have this seat at the grandparents house and I haven't noticed anything sharp when I've cleaned that one either. That person must have gotten a defective one. I wouldn't avoid the seat because of that one incident, just check your seat carefully before you use it - just in case.

Overall, I think this is a great training seat.

This toilet seat may sit on your toilet and look nice (they can sit comfortably and hold on) the only problem is, it catches quite a bit of the urine between the two pieces. Definitely not worth it. Might as well have a little potty to clean up instead.

I actually bought 2 of these when my daughter was training. She did so much better on the 'big' toilet than the small ones. BONUS - using the ring has way less mess to clean each time! We left one at Grandma's house & 1 for home. They fit fine on our oblong seats & just as secure on Grandma's traditional round seat. However we make sure to pull the seat all the way forward on ours so that the 'gap' is in the back not the front, it is less stable when pushed back.

Once she got a bit bigger & more secure holding herself on the 'big' seat, she stopped using it.

We recently pulled i out again for our son who also loves it, The security of the handles on the side has been a bonus for both our kids! The downside for a boy is the 'deflector' is very small & doesn't do very much, however we have just taught him how to make sure he is 'pointed down' every time he sits & begins to pee.

I have noticed the seam between the top & bottom & can see how maybe it could be rough! Ours just broke in that spot.. .i think from storing it & having other things stacked on top of it. Even so, I wouldn't hesitate to spend money on it again.

It is light weight (kids can put it on & off by themself) & easy to clean. I have not had any problem with urine collecting between base & seat, but I always 'tilt' it after their done to make sure.

Bought this at the store for my grandson to use while visiting. Problems: 1) not secure on elongated toilet seat because the insert/lip is narrow and it doesn't set deep enough into the elongated toilet seat, moves easily and has potential for nasty tumbles off the toilet when child attempts to get on/off seat; 2) the soft plastic ring easily comes out of the blue frame with just a little wiggling around, again not very "safe", 3) you have to be sure to take it apart and clean it thoroughly after each use because urine and feces can get between the soft plastic ring and the frame, also there is a seam in the soft plastic ring that allows urine and feces to become trapped and is very difficult to clean. DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRODUCT!

My two yo wasn't interested in her small potty, but she loves this seat. It's light enough, and the handles are well-placed so that she can place it on the toilet herself. She is tremendously proud of herself to be using the toilet, and likes being able to remove the seat and put it away between uses. We have oblong low-flow toilets and haven't had any trouble with this compact, padded seat. It snaps together easily, too.

I am so displeased with this item- I'm on a search to contact the company now to complain about it. I thought it was fine for the first few weeks, then I noticed a horrible odor in my bathroom- it always smelled like urine and I could not figure out why. The one day, my daughter was putting her potty seat on our toilet. She tipped it up and all of this urine poured out onto her pants and socks. Unknown to me, urine had been collecting between the white soft seat and the blue base of this product- the source of the horrible odor. I've made it part of my cleaning rituals to take the seat apart and clean it every week- yet the smell still lingers. Every time I use my bathroom, I can smell that awful smell- I hate it. No matter what I do, I can't get rid of it. I'm on a mission to purchase a better trainer seat.

I should note that I have a girl, and this may make a difference. This is the only seat she will actually use without a fuss. By comparison, the "soft" character seats with the molded plastic splashguards are quite uncomfortable, because when she sits, she ends up being imprinted with the hard plastic on her bum, and she can't scoot off without being bumped by the hard plastic splashguard. This seat, by comparison, is quite comfy for her and I have noticed no urine build-up at all, nor has the top separated from the bottom, nor is it unstable on our standard toilet.

I have had the same experience with this potty trainer as several other reviewers here. Urine collects in the molded plastic piece on the underside so that it runs out any time you lift the trainer off the toilet. Because of this, it's impossible to get it really clean and it does pick up a nasty urine odor. Also, it isn't quite big enough for little boys - My 2 year old has to scoot all the way back onto the back of the ring in order to avoid peeing over the front of it onto the floor. Fine, unless he also has to do "#2" - in which case, he ends up getting pooh all over the back of the potty ring. This is just a poorly thought out product. Save your money.

This product could more appropriately be called a "toddler urine catcher," because that's what it does. What do I mean? I mean that urine actually collects inside of it and then drips out (after fermenting for a few days) around the edges and on to your real toilet seat. Obviously the people that designed this are childless.
