5.0 out of 5 stars Does for Flash what Dark Knight did with Batman
Well, how or where to start. Maybe pointing out that The Flash 90s TV series could and should be considered as the beginning of what you can call as a well rounded and very grounded adaptation for a comic book hero.
So, if you consider yourself a fan of more contemporary adaptations, such as TV's Smallville, or the bigscreen The Dark Knight then you'll love this...

This was the first try at something of this caliber. It has some degrees of deep and personality. True, the show only lasted one season. But what a ride. Maybe its complexity, which was ahead of its time, was the reason of its early demise.

A previous reviewer wrongly points this as a dissapointment for not being a light hearted show. This is not a kids show. It was never intended to be. You can even see Barry Allen, the main character, using his powers to his advantage with his girlfriend, if you know what I mean. Nothing explicit, of course, but you clearly knew what was going on. Funny.

I think that if you're looking for something of a kiddy, campy kind of show, then you should go for shows like the 60s Batmannot available on DVDs), or, say, even the Power Rangers.

5.0 out of 5 stars This show deserved a much longer life, October 3, 2012
If you like the genre of Super Heroes; you'll love the Flash. John Wesley Shipp provides the lead character with a humanity, unlike his cartoon version. This Flash is thoughtful, intelligent and has a sensitivity that other comic adaptations get wrong out of the gate. The shows cleverly adapt the comics in a way a modern audience will enjoy. The reason why it was canceled? CBS didn't have much respect for the genre and kept switching it on different days. It never found an audience because it never came on the same day each week. Football and other events kept delaying the broadcasts. I believe it was done to get rid of the show. Now you can enjoy them all. I only wish it was allowed to survive. It was a gem that will never be duplicated again. If you like the Batman, Superman TV shows with a modern twist, this is a show you'll like. You won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Flash, May 21, 2014

In the early 90's CBS tried this series out and it didn't work. The writing just wasn't there. The costume looked good and looks better than the "new" Flash's costume which isn't even red like the comics! Here on "Amazon Instant" you can buy individual episodes for your devices. I recommend the 2 with Mark Hammill of "Star Wars" as "The Trickster." There's also a couple of others here that include 2 other famous comic villains "Captain Cold" and " Mirror Man." Hamill's turn here changed his life, he was that manic and good, because he was hired soon after to voice "The Joker" in the 90's "Batman" series from Buce Timm.

4.0 out of 5 stars Flash yes, Raincoats no, June 18, 2013

Pilot (The Flash)
Well made pilot, obvious plot. I only wish this could have been a theatrical movie instead of a TV show. I know it would have been a blockbuster. Maybe it's in the works, but at least us Super Hero Aficionados got their teeth wet in this low budget example of what could be. Flash was a good title because it went by too fast and left you hanging. At least it wasn't about a creep in a raincoat!

4.0 out of 5 stars The acting is great John Wesley Ship nailed Barry Allen down perfect, September 10, 2014

The acting is great John Wesley Ship nailed Barry Allen down perfect. Amanda Pays also did a great job playing the part of Tina McGee that and having a mixture of classic cars on the streets with new models at the time this series was shot. Too bad it only lasted one season.

3.0 out of 5 stars Before he was the Animated Joker..., June 6, 2011
Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Along with being recognized as The Farm Boy who became a Space Knight, Mark Hamill is a high-profile friend of a number of creators and editors at DC Comics, prompting him to write several introductions to their graphic reprints of their most popular collections and donating his voice as The Joker on "Batman, The Animated Series" as well as several "Justice League" series installments. Before he worked as the "Clown Prince of Crime," he appeared in two episodes of The Flash TV series as Barry Allen's answer to this deadly villain: James Jesse alias The Trickster! During the early stages of this TV series, most of the villains were either generic throwaway thugs or fabricated knock-offs of classic DC characters (notably Nightshade/The Original Sandman), but along with the appearance of Captain Cold(Michael Champion) and Mirror Master(David Cassidy), Hamill's Trickster was part of a long-awaited adaptation of members of The Flash's Classic Rogues Gallery.

In this Rematch episode, he's sprung from facing trial by a new partner, Prank. Some would call her Harley Quinn before-the-fact and they wouldn't be too far off.

While The Bad Guy's plot regarding how to deal with The Good Guy was an interesting twist, Julie "Catwoman" Newmar and Victor "King Tut" Buono did the same thing with Adam "Batman" West and Burt "Robin" Ward a few decades earlier, which made this installment less-than-great but not-that-bad. If they took the Comic-Book-on-the-screen path with the show from the beginning, it could have lasted as long as "Smallville" or at least "Lois and Clark." Who knows?

The show was great back in the day and I still enjoyed it now. Definitely ahead of its time. If this show was made with today's technology and storytelling, it would've been amazing. Also Mark Hamil was great in it too.

I remember watching this when it first came out and it was fun to watch this with my son who is about the age I was when I first saw it. I still enjoyed it as much now as I did then.
