Another epic tale set in Lancashire. Similar vein to most of Audrey's other books, but she is such a good story teller it was worth the read.

I read the Kindle book of the above...
I liked and admired the courage of the heroine Charlotte. But as a whole I found the story like a walk through the darkness of evil. It's mostly about an abusive father of the worst kind who takes pleasure in whipping his children including his 16 year old daughter on their bare buttocks; forces her to marry a man-who thankfully loves her and shelters her siblings- but then afterwards relentlessly pursues, torments and blackmails her to be his whore!
All this in a society that can't help her because it's the father's right to do as he pleases with his family because he is a 'gentleman' ??!!
Also I can't understand how Charlotte cowers to him and keeps silent to protect her husband ? an ex army man !!
This goes worse till in the end the daughter's maid poison the father to do her own justice BUT in the process commits murder -even if it is left undetected-.
I am sorry but it's definitely not my kind of entertaining book. It's weird !... I have read "the Juniper Bush" by Audrey Howard.
which is about hardship, tragedy, courage, love and much more; not the type of evil depravity that soils the mind and leaves a sickening feeling of injustice that I got from Flight of the Swallows. That's my own opinion.

I've read all of this authors novels, and I find because of the historical facts she puts in them, I learn something new each time.
Absorbing read through trials and tribulations, all works out in the end.
