"The Flowers of War", while not a perfect film, is made much more watchable thanks to its wonderful score. It should have been nominated for an Oscar, quite frankly, but with so few people seeing it, that was never going to happen.

Qigang Chen has woven a gorgeous blend of choral church music, Western orchestra and traditional Chinese instruments and music. The movie has several scenes of almost unwatchable brutality, but the music ingeniously goes in the opposite direction, embodying the more noble aspirations of the church and the young women involved in the story. It makes every scene achingly heart-breaking.

So if you're into beautiful fusions of East and West, I highly recommend this soundtrack. Joshua Bell is a featured soloist.

I can't tell you how much I have enjoyed and grown to love the beautiful music from this sound tract. I saw the movie and was quite moved by it. I'm sorry it was not well received here in America. Every day we are surrounded by the most basic and plain heroes that go unseen. They are not special to begin with, they are many times so far below our society's radar that we go right by them without even knowing it. But once in a while, circumstances turn these people into extraordinary human beings, capable of great self-sacrifice and courage. That is what this story is about, the cruelty of what we can sink to and the majesty of what we can rise to. This music speaks of it all with very few words. Thank you for the movie and the music. T. Whenever I see a film, I always pay attention to the soundtrack. In The Flowers of War, the music is exceptionally superb. It never intrudes with anything in the film but gently carries and supports the storyline. I think it could have won an Oscar for Best Original Score had it been nominated. The music is truly beautiful and I look forward to listening to it often.The Flowers Of War

the movie is hard to watch because of the brutality of the Rape of Nanking. Knowing the history makes the movie especially difficult.

the movie is well done, I'm sad that not many saw it. They put in such effort to make the dialect authentic, the beautiful chong sams, the hair and make up.I guess that's why regular non-chinese viewers can't really appreciate.

I didn't really noticed the music until buying the soundtrack. It's great.
