About the Author

James Endredy is a teacher, mentor, and guide to thousands of people through his books and workshops. After a series of life tragedies and mystical experiences as a teenager he changed direction from his Catholic upbringing and embarked on a life-long spiritual journey to encounter the mysteries of life and death and why we are all here. For over twenty-five years he has learned shamanic practices from all over the globe, while also studying with kawiteros, lamas, siddhas, roadmen, and leaders in the modern fields of ecopsychology, bioregionalism, and sustainable living. James also worked for ten years with Mexican shamanic researcher Victor Sanchez learning to share shamanic practices with modern people.

On a daily level, his experiences have inspired him to live a sustainable lifestyle as much as possible while still working within mainstream society. He writes, leads workshops, mentors private clients, visits schools and community centers, speaks at bookstores, and volunteers in his community. His books have thus far been published in four languages and include Ecoshamanism, Shamanism for Beginners, and Beyond 2012.

Lets start this review by asking a question. What are man's innate limitations? And lets not leave that question unanswered either. Man is unlimited, it is only if one believes that he or she is limited that one becomes as such. I must say that before i lead you through the corridors of my own logic, that you should be warned that i have an awful habit of assumption. In that I merely am assuming that Mr. Endredy beliefs are similiar to my own. It really does seem to be the case because throughout the duration of "The Flying Witches of Veracruz" my relationship with the concept of limitation was being totally revamped. Without me knowing it, a curandero was leading me down a hole( one that happened to belong to that of a rabbit) into a world where perceptual boundaries wore off, and our apparent objective world caved in until everything fashioned itself into an infinite etheric mass. Okay, not really. I didnt transcend the maya, and merge into the cosmic ocean. I confess. However The Flying Witches of Veracruz definitly did take me for one hell of a ride. Into places that my conditioned mind could not go. Sectors of consciousness labled restricted, that Mr. Endredy pays absolutely no attention to at all. I admire and applaud that characteristic. Anyways lets get on with the review.

There are three sections of this book and they are as such:
Part 1: Witches, spells, and consequences.
Part 2: Flying, dreaming, and the devil's weed.
Part 3: Dream Trance Healing.

All three parts have their own unique function. It seems that part 1 mostly focuses on Jame's introduction to his teacher and friends. And how it is that he ends up practicing brujeria. Its all a rather intense story that will most definitly be if not inspiring, exciting.

While it was entertaining, it demands QUITE the suspension of disbelief.

The level of writing is decent, I suppose, and entertaining, but the character interactions border on childlike. I'm sorry, but this type of material demands something a little more substantial than the author's "quest" of bouncing around from locale to locale, fighting evil and always happening to run into the right person at the right time.

It's not even so much that, as it is the dialogue is just plain dumb. It doesn't read so much as an autobiographical account of experience as it does something that was dreamed up in front of a computer (with or without the use of an "ally", haha)

If the author cares to dispute this, he's more than welcome to fly on over and "visit" me.

James Endredy is a powerful healer, companion, friend, brujo, curandero, and story-teller. In his latest book he expounds on the tales of his previous bookLightning in My Blood: A Journey Into Shamanic Healing & the Supernatural. In this book his particular focus is a time period from Mexico when he was learning the various forms of curanderismo from the witches in VeraCruz. From the beginning of the book the reader is taken into the world of curandero/brujo to see the beneficence and malfeasance of this type of spiritual intercession. One may be able to see these types of interactions in different cultures like the Spiritist movement in Brazil where mediums will perform disobsessions on individuals affected with the spirits of of lost souls. Is it possible to be hexed or to be cursed? If so, how can have these removed? This book explores the dimensions of spiritual healing that many of us can not even comprehend. While there is mention of the use of entheogens, specifically datura, James makes reference to the dangerous nature of the plant and the uttter respect he has for it. This is not the plant for casual use and may even cause death if not taken under the care of a serious practitioner. Basically, this book teaches us that there is life beyond this earthly realm and the spirits there are ready to help us if we can open our eyes to the possibilities. The spirits are not bad, but can be used by bad people. Like humnas in this earthly life we can speak with them and explain our situation to them and we can also exist on that plane for some time.Read more ›

This book is the next chapter in the amazing life of James Endredy! I will state that I am a fan of the authors' work. That being said, I believe I am also a fan of the man. Mr. Endredy captures vividly the essence of shamanism, as well as indigenous witchcraft. As stated in my review of another of his works, he draws you into the story, makes you feel you are there. Could be his writing talents (more likely) or that I am a little spacey, from my own adventures. (well....also likely..) Check your unbelieving mind at page 1, and let yourself be free, enjoy the ride, it is an epic one. I will wait patiently for the next installment. If you have any interest in shamanism, love, beauty, truth, rooting for someone, remembering someone, or having appreciation of someone, for their true-being, this is the book for you!!! Thank you Mr. Endredy, for a great book!! May your path be beautiful for you. We are all related, Peace!
